Is there a way to install a kill switch that would disengage the ECU under the drivers seat? It could just be unplugged....and then no one would be able to start the LC. Ask me how I found that out. ;)

It would be very easy to repurpose the "2nd start" switch on 95+ rigs as a kill switch that the vast majority of people would never find.

But then you'd still end up with the damage OP has to deal with.

With everything I'm doing to mine I'm strongly considering hidden skill switch(es) as well as an alarm with a separate battery source.

Park nose in and steering cranked all the way right or left will help with big city tow boys

Yes▲ dont make it easy is a good thing

I had a friend loose a full size truck with a trailer loaded with toys chained up attached. They found the truck with the alarm still set a few blocks away

You don't lock your vehicle in LI? And you don't have an aftermarket alarm??? tsk tsk. Whoever he was, he was an idiot. All he needed was a dent puller on that ignition and he could have started it with a screwdriver.
I suspect we've identified the thief!

Did you report it to police? Any surveillance video? Latent prints? The reason cars are stolen nowadays is mainly to use them to commit other crimes in them. Trust me no crackhead or tweaker is going to do all the work parting out takes. I'm really surprised anyone would try to steal an 80. With that being said I hope you can get it all straightened out. That would piss me to no end to have this happen.

Yeah I got a police report. I'm really surprised myself. These things are becoming more and more valuable though.

Ironic. Speaking of theft, just found out that my Step-Son's BMX was stolen last night. There is a special place in hell for someone that would steal a kids bike.

This is why I have an old Iphone hardwired in the truck, well hidden, that has "Find my iPhone" turned on. I have "other" stuff that prevents it from getting stolen but if it ever gets towed I can at least follow it. My 79 Toyota 4WD P'up was stolen when a tow truck just grabbed it by the wheels and drove off.

How does Find my iPhone work without cellular data or wifi?

Its just a fourth line for me. I have this line reserved as an emergency phone. It has a phone number, cell service, wifi turned on, etc. But there is no cell minutes allocated to it. Its just for GPS using the cell lines. It costs me $5/mo thru T-Mobile.

Small price to pay to track the wife

Cool idea, that works out as a poor mans lo jack

Is it getting more and more common for our vehicles to be stolen? I guess it depends where you live but sure would suck to find your vehicle messed up like that or gone completely.

I know how pissed off I was when some fawker took my shopping cart in Walmart and emptied it in a matter of 5 minutes.

I cannot imagine how pissed off I would be if someone stole my Land Cruiser. I need to install a fuel pump shut off switch and make the switch hidden.

I don't know if all year are the same, but looking at the wiring diagram for the 94, there looks to be a wiring harness junction block for the fuel pump located right under the center console. So you could cut into that junction, install an on off switch for the fuel pump, and then hide it in the center console.

I had actually thought of sticking a nrg quick release hub on mine and forgoing the airbag for this reason. They can still tow the truck away but at least the crackheads wont want to try and steal it if the steering wheel isn't there.

Well, you could do the repairs yourself for a couple hundred dollars, have it done with new parts for likely less than $1k definitely not totaled. I may have a gauge cluster lens I can donate to the cause.

Glad they didn't get away with it, really sucks when you 80 gets stolen. I guess damage like that sucks too. Here is what it looks like when the thief is more successful and maybe more experienced. Then all they need is scissors for keys and the pipe for smoking motivation.

@FZJ EightE, they actually left their crack pipe behind?!?!? LOL. Really short attention span, I guess.

@Titan94, I feel sorry for all the damage they did to your rig. If there's any way we all can help please just say so.

Last September a trio of meth-head drifters gunned down a woman in SF visiting from Canada and then two days later killed a local Marin County hiker, then stole his 2003 VW (Drifters accused of SF, Marin County murders appear in court). The VW had some kind of GPS tracker in it and the two dudes and a gal were arrested 600 miles away outside a soup kitchen in Portland, Oregon trying to sell the VW a few days later. I'm all for this tracker tech and it sounds like you've figured a way to minimize the associated expense.

Everything else is crazy expensive and I just have old iPhones that I keep when I upgrade phones. This way they get repurposed as a form of LoJack. Call it AppleJak hahaha
