Hello everybody!

Name's Kyle. I have been lurking the forums for about the last six years, but post very little. I mostly lived in the tech forums learning the inner workings of the FJ60 chassis and 2F engine when something broke, or made a funny noise that was a little funnier than I felt comfortable hearing. I guess this is my attempt to be more social and meet real people other than my dog. Don't get me wrong, my dog is awesome. But he's not the best conversation as mostly replies in sneezes and farts.

It's in the cards that I'll be moving to the Asheville area in the net few week, assuming nothing else goes wrong with the home loan. In prepping for the move, I've been resurrecting my FJ60 that's been sitting the past three years. The surgery has been going well, and everything should be road and trail ready again once the last bit of parts come in the mail.

Anyone local to that area who can provide some insight on some good trails or OHV areas? I'm bringing a couple other 4, 3 and 2 wheel toys along too, so if anyone has info on some good spots where smaller vehicles can go, that's much appreciated as well.

Welcome! You'll find that NC doesn't have many legal, challenging offroad trails but there are still some interesting journeys available that locals will tell you about. AVL is a few hours from Uwharrie National Forest and roughly the same from Gulches ORV Park in SC and Winrock in TN. You'll also be only about 1-1.5hrs from many of our friends in Upstate Cruisers (SC), so actually a little closer than Charlotte (2-2.5hrs). We'll be happy to see you. Let us know if you need anything during the move. Some of us know the area very well and many of us have lots of contacts there.

@sleepycruiser is there, too.

I am in SC 6 miles south off the NC line, about 45 minutes south of Hendersonville. As stated above there are not a whole lot of legal trails to run. Let us know when you are getting into town.

Greetings and safe travels across the country! As @JohnVee referenced, the Upstate Cruisers have many members in Western NC and SC. Many of us are members of more than one Land Cruiser club in the region due to proximity and relationships! The leaders of the Upstate Cruisers are here in Greenville so that is where most gatherings take place but we do have several 1-4 day events up in the NC Mtns not far from Asheville. Note that if you are in need of a Land Cruiser mechanic, we are fortunate to have Trollhole's Cruisers here in Greenville! They can fix any FJ, BJ, HJ series!

Safe travels @Speen Shaytan !!!

Around asheville, the Pisgah national forest and Cherokee national forests have a lot of forest roads that are great for a stock to mild truck, with TONS of camping around there, all legal and mostly free. Tons of roads to explore. Search our forum for "Hurricane Creek" and you'll see where we have gone.

Thanks for the welcome all, I'm definitely looking forward to ditching CA. A friend of mine put it best, living in CA is like having a smoking hot girlfriend who abuses you constantly. Every now and then she reminds you why shes great, but mostly just punches you in the face (and wallet).

I was perusing around the forum the other night and found the Hurricane Creek post. That looks like a nice drive that my fiance would enjoy. She is the slowest, most cautious driver I know and isn't the biggest fan of leaving pavement. But hey, she's a great cook, so...

NC is like that hot girls cool older sister. Nicer, not as curvy, no fake boobs, but will look better in the long run.

BTW instead of being a pron star, she is a doctor and would rather you "work from home" as a stay at home dad and split time on fixing up the FJ40 - you just gotta learn to play the guitar and the finer points of BBQ and good beer to keep her happy.

Jamie @weejub , you really need to get the hell out of the house

@Speen Shaytan or you could come to SC, the slutty younger sister............

. . sorry . . I was imagining life if my Heather allowed me to "work from home" as a stay at home Dad.

Welcome! That's exactly why I left SD, CA too. Loved it there but couldn't afford it anymore.

Same reason I left the Keys. A non renovated shotgun shack on 1/8 acre was $650K, 14 years ago. I left 11 years ago.

That life is good for some, but definitely not for me. I'm so used to SoCal prices, getting to Asheville blew my mind. Cool people, cool town and a plethora of my hobbies right at my front door? And affordable? Sign me up. Granted, I will miss some things. It's about 72 degrees and sunny on my patio right now...

I'll definitely be making my way down to SC. I've got an old friend of mine near Jacksonville with a bunch of family/friends in SC. I've heard rumors of private property with a pig problem, so I'm definitelygoing to investigate.

We've not seen wild boar here to date but within 5 miles or so they have been reported. There were boar on the farm Heather used to rent and they brought hunters on the property. Never got one on that property.

I have been working from home for about 12 years or so now in one form or another. It certainly has it's perks but there are days I go to town for lunch to just get the hell out of here for a while.
