Ya, I suspect that so much of my grill will be obscured by large driving lights & winch control unit that I might not care. We'll see...

Can't wait to see that bumper installed!

Believe me...it's driving me NUTS looking at it in the garage...

I'm waiting on Stedi Type-X 8.5" lights from Australia before install. In about 4 weeks I'll have the Slee rear, TJM front, winch & lights all installed.

Thanks to all the posters in the thread blazing the BGC trail, I got some ideas for my own install.

My main innovation consists of the following:

Instead of cutting off the plastic studs, I drilled a small hole through them and ran a zip tie through each, and then attached it to the grille. Thus far it's working great... At least I think it's level. Enough. Yeah.

I considered punching through the grille with the front-facing camera, but as I'm also looking into how to improve the image quality of said camera, I refrained at this point and left it zip-tied to the vertical crossmember behind the grille for now.

PS, if you ever wondered what the view looks like, well...

Camera's in camera jail for being a bad camera.

Sorry for dirty truck pics, it hasn't been washed in a while and it was even sprinkling while I was doing this.

The half life on zip ties is actually pretty short. Some old fashioned stainless wire will outlast your truck.

On second thought you might have to use black finger nail polish to disguise it. You can tell I don't plan to change the logo.

I used zip ties as the logo's directly in front of the radar cruise control emitter - there's a number of people in the thread mentioning that when they used metal hardware on the badge, they received radar errors. The zip ties should be fine, and even if they do fail they shouldn't all fail at once.

I think you are correct Tremek. Nevertheless, I am frequently surprised at how fast zip ties on hydraulic hoses on tractors or dozens of other pieces of equipment on a farm fail.

UV is typically what kills zip ties outside. The method above where drilling through the mounting boss, seems to keep the zip tie out of the sun as much as practical.

Debating on whether to do this on my gold '08. Not sure what the black would look like with the gold hood.

Get some UV-stable zip ties. I have some I used on the wiring loom on my rack and they're holding up great, even though my truck is parked outside all year.

I've been keeping an eye on my cheapo harbor freight zip-ties, and they still seem good as new after a year or so parking outside...

We'll see...

On the other hand... UV zip ties are cheap on Amazon. :) Might as well swap.

One thing I did differently than some here was cut off the pins in back, because it allowed me to mount the TOYOTA without being slanted slightly. I found the pins made it hard to hang straight.

I'm new to the forum, could you please tell me how you did that to the grill of your LC? That's the exact look I want!!

I found the grill on ebay (I would say the grill has held up good, but definitely not great FWIW) and like others bought the 70 series TOYOTA grill logo. The rest of the process is basically the same as everyone else has documented. Relatively easy process.

Modifying with the black Bentley-style Hex Grille and FJ40 emblem badge seems to be a pretty common thing to do, so I thought I would start a thread for others who may be considering giving it a try.

I saw your 200 the other day headed the opposite direction (we waved frantically from a stock white 200) and almost did a double take! The truck looks fantastic like that!

For all of you black grill mafia members, what did you do with the stock grill?

I'm debating getting a new one, as I'm on the fence about an experiment I'm running....

Nice!

The only reason I cut mine of was because the studs prevented my from attaching it without a tilt (not level). It was slight...but it would have bugged me. :)
