My 92 tweed/cloth looks incredible for 24 years old. My 93 leather looks (and smells) like raccoons had an orgy in it.

Can't wait to replace my front seats with manual seats out of a 92 and new cloth covers from Frank at Land Cruiser Heaven.

I guess I'm spoiled cause I've got the best of both worlds... 92 with a 96 full float rear end w/ discs, e lockers front and rear with marlin front 3rd member, 4:56's, cam, ported head, injectors, header.. even with all the mods, it's still painfully slow. But, it's just part of the game. I love mine, and the horrible gas mileage it gets.

Quote The Expert's at Manafre the oldest Toyota land Cruiser parts distributor in the world recommend steering Clear of the fj80 and waiting out for a FZJ80 due to it's much better engine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comparing the two is a subject that will be debated long after I'm gone my 3fe runs perfect and it actually has quite a bit of power I guess I just love its simplicity I'll never trade my 3Fe I could spend a crapload of money and put all the modifications on my 3fe and gain 5 more horsepower but it's good enough for me 3fe power all the way I will be buried in this thing

it's cause they are a parts distributor... if everyone drove 3FE's then all the parts houses would go out of business!! HAHA. Cause they just don't break down...

My '96 has 310k miles and runs like a top with a turbo. I don't see how that qualifies as inadequately reliable. At 310k it has it's fair share of oil leaks (transfer and rear tranny being the worst), but I've never seen any cruiser that wasn't owned by an anal retentive OCD type that didn't leak some oil.

Why not simply dump the pos '93 and get another '92, it's not like they are rare or expensive? For years you have preached that you have owned all of them and everyone's later rigs are garbage compared to your perfect rig. So obviously knowing that going in, why did you buy that junk, just so you can bitch about it here?

Ha, true. There is nothing on the 3fe I haven't been able to fix with duct tape and bailing wire out on the trail. With 4.88's, my rig will outrun most 1FZ's on the board. I keep it light weight by not adding a bunch of armor and crap on the roof, and feed it a steady diet of OEM parts. These guys that complain about the lack of power of either engine haven't spent much time behind a 20R/22R pushing around some meaty tires. I had a 4runner on 37's for a while, that was under powered! With either motor, 80's are just bad ass fun rigs that shine where the gravel ends and the two track begins. No matter the year, get one, I wish I did years ago.

Because I couldn't find a rust free 92 at the time for as cheap as I got my 93. Plus I wanted to truly drive a 93-97 day in and out to see. I've owned 93-97 80s but never kept them or drove them enough.

My point with bashing the 93-97 is that people bash the 91-92 because of a less powerful engine or smaller brakes or no locking diffs. Blah blah blah. There are pros and cons with either one. But the majority are just regurgitating some drivel they read on Mud. They haven't actually experienced it.

I love the cloth seats in both of my 93 land cruisers! Also I love the dash design of the 91-94 better than the 95-97.

I don't know how important airbags are to the OP, but they are a plus. I will say I like the aesthetics of the steering wheel of the 92. My leather seats in my lx450 are toast, and I will be putting cloth in when I have them reupholstered, both front and second row. I will also add that the lack of power in my 60 (original 2f) doesn't bother me, and I live at 8120ft altitude.

(sigh) Not this again...Don't you guys get tired of this crap?

Both are great and both have drawbacks. Drive what you want and believe what you want and move on.
I miss my white 91 every single day. I was the original owner and she was part of the family, but she went to a good home and I have visitation rights. Driving my 97 puts a stupid smile on my face. I love them both.

Load of crap about axle strength BTW and brakes need to be maintained on any vehicle.
