I haven’t been able to find one but does anyone know of an A pillar mounting solution for aftermarket gauges for the 80 series? Trying to not drill into the dash for an oil pressure gauge.

Check ebay au, can get 1x - 4x pods, different colours etc

In my opinion I think these designs/locations are cleaner, more minimal than the pillar ones. I have my gauges mounted above the steering upper cover. Really don’t like the annoyance of the gauges in close proximity to my eyes and the focal point. I may upgrade to the ones below in the future. The vent one may not work in our left hand drive.

I believe they do make those vent gauges for left hand drive as well but out of those two, I prefer roof console gauge pods.

Personally, I am using DeltaVS a-pillar mount + Ram Mounting Arm + Phone + Torque Pro + OBDII Doggle. Massive customizability.

The picture shows Ram phone mount but I am also trying out a Quad Lock Case with a ball adapter.

Ooo that vent one looks like it replaces the clock?? That would be sweet. Nevermind. Edit, it replaces the vent next to clock on a RHD

You are in San Diego the middle vent may not work for you. However, I'm in Seattle - temperate weather. I always use the windshield vents.
It's all preference. The overhead one makes more sense. Need to make sure the gauges have enough wires to the ceiling. Below I'm using these cheap amazon pods for the oil/tempt & coolant/battery volt. Check the link for some inspirations?

Yes I saw that thread. I don’t want to drill holes if I don’t have to. The only really good option is deltas center console replacement. But it seems silly to spend that much just to avoid drilling holes

Why do you need auxiliary gauges? The stock cluster is perfectly fine.

If you want to know the exact coolant temp to the 1/10 degree get a UltraGauge for $100. You can get one that will tell you transmission temp on Gen 3 GM also.

I like the stock cluster. Alot. I just wanted to fit a better oil pressure gauge. I just like to know my exact oil pressure.

Just a preference. I like the dual functionality of the of the innovative gauges (oil pressure/tempt, Coolant tempt/battery voltage), the design. Also, I like the look of them when they are side to side. Before the first used engine blew up, the reading of 8 psi oil pressure told me something was wrong with the engine. Knowing the more precise oil pressure is nice comparing to using the stock LC cluster indicator. I would have got the ultragauge to read the trans tempt if I knew about it before I installed the trans gauge. Need to report back to tmxmotorsports when I get my trans to operating tempt using a thermal gun. Still working on a few things to get my lc on the road.

I mean, I use gauges via Torque Pro to see my real time Air Fuel Ratio (Lambda), Long Term Fuel Trims on each Bank, O2 Sensors on each bank, Intake Air Temperature, Coolant Temp, Oil Pressure, Oil Temp, Transmission Temp, Transmission Gear, A/C Pressure.

Ooo I have never heard of that. Bluetooth obd2 scanner and link to your phone.

Me personally I think the stock gauges are fine. I also think aftermarket gauges belong in race car application's I just think gauges in a daily driver is tacky but I know some people have to know exactly the precise temp and pressure anyways just my opinion. @FlyinFaded im really not a fan of that console in a dd vehicle just doesn't flow with the stock interior and again just my opinion.

I agree with you. This isn’t my daily driver but I want to keep it as stock as possible. I already bought an auto meter oil pressure gauge. I may just drill a 52mm hole into the stock center console below the ashtray and fit it there and be done with it.

I want to thank @tmxmotorsports for sending me a spare tach to test.

I couldn't find much on the XRA6731A chip that Toyota used, other than some Russian websites. Usually one should be able to find a document to describe how to implement the IC.

What I did find is that the POT (variable resistor) that is on the board can be used to adjust the RPM vs Pulses. What this means is if your motor is outputting 2 or 4 pulses/revolution , rather than 3, this POT can be used to adjust the RPM to that frequency. That POT is a multiplier, which makes it super simple to adjust for motor swaps with different number of cylinders. I am sure Toyota did it this way to make it useful for 4 cyl, 6 yl, and 8 cyl engines.

I will update this post once I measured the resistance on either side of the POT. This way someone can just set the POT and get close...without having a frequency generator.

Toyota's 3 Pulses/Revolution * 60 seconds:

SwapTime (V8) 4 Pulses/Revolution * 60 seconds:

Stock (1FZ-FE), 3 Pulses/Rev:

Two different Tachs adjusted for SwapTime:
4 Pulses/Rev:

B <-> C is just measuring the total resistance of the POT. There is variance between POTS.

I think A <-> C resistance is being used by the XRA6731A chip. Get close to that reading for 4 pulses/rev.
The instructions on Mitch's website currently say that the Muscle Car Module puts out 2 pulses/rev for the tachometer input. Has he changed his design in the last year?
