This post rolls forward from @thatcabledude #1091 back in February. I've tried to loop in a couple of folks that helped work through the EC1 wiring (@offr0adlim0 & @steve604 ) in that series of posts. but please anybody chime in

I am about in the same place as cable dude in february. I have only followed Rockrod's colored chart. And I have no speedo nor CDL (and no lockers, but I suspect that will take care of its self when I get the CDL). I am using both sides of the '1993 connector for EC1

@thatcabledude mentioned correcting Rockrod's chart to pick up 12v from pin 5 in IH1 But what wire in the EC1 bundle did that get connected to? Seems to me I need a couple more sources for 12v to energize the VSS & CDL & whatever else feeds up through this connector

@steve604 mentioned there are two grounds, brown-black and white-black OR brown. I have a white black AND a brown left open after the rockrod pinout can I assume they are grounds?

I guess basically I'm asking if somebody can hold my hand, and complete the wiring need for EC1, once one goes as far as rockrod's pinout. What does it take to correct, and complete after that point?
Have you figured this out yet? I’m at the same spot… LQ4 w/4l80e runs/drives great but I have no speedo or CDL and my front and rear lockers only flash! Help!

How are you guys handling 4LO
When I shift my transfer case into 4Lo the transmission (4L60) shifts through the gears to fast and stays in the higher gears all the time.

So I found the "4WD Low" wire on the PCM (Pin 16, green plug) and added a pin. My understanding is that it should be grounded when in 4LO, and I intended to connect it to the 4LO switch on the transfer case. In the mean time, I manually grounded it when shifting to 4LO - and the truck ran like crap! Very rough, sometimes stalling at low RPM. Ran ok when you got past that, shifting was maybe better - not sure. After a bit, it set code P2771 4WD Low Switch Circuit. At that point it must ignore pin 16 because the rough engine went away and the shifting was crap again.

The wiring diagram I have isn't very useful - it just shows Pin 16 on the PCM connecting to Pin B5 4WD Lo Sig on the "Transfer Case Shift Control Module"

Any idea what signal pin 16 is supposed to get? Maybe a momentary ground instead of constant ground? Any other way to convince the PCM to shift right in 4LO?

@EricG I just stick the shifter into first gear. It stays in first. Works perfectly for me so I never fooled with any of the GM 4wd sensor stuff. I love the way the truck works with “manually shifting” while in low. Wheel it in 1st and when you get through an obstacle and want to drive faster bump it to 2nd or even 3rd.

You’re right though. If left in “drive” the trans shifts to 2nd gear almost immediately

I would like that. I hate the factory programming where in Low range you have to rev it to 3000 before it will shift up.

I got the lockers to work. It’s been several years, can’t recall the specifics, but as I remember, I was missing a ground for the CDL. The CDL is key. No other lockers will work without it engaged & the CDL dash light on.

I have never been able to get the Speedo to work. I’ve been using a tablet with an app that has a GPS speedo. Not a big deal for me, since I’m running 44’ers and regeared, not sure the Speedo would be accurate anyway. Next step for me would be to clamp a VOM to the feed at the glove bow, to confirm I am getting a varying current to the combination unit (Toyota speak for the instrument cluster with the Speedo) I’ve seen posts where there has been a burnout on the Speedo’s circuit board. I bought this rig specifically for the swap. It was in rough shape & hardly drivable. Maybe the Speedo never worked for me !!

Picking up the motor/trans that will be making its way into my 92 at some point.

2015 5.3 Gen V and 6l80e with 27k on them out of a tahoe.

My first question is motor mounts, I see tons that are bolt in options for 93-97 but does anyone make one for the 91-92 80's?

I am almost through with the adapter plate to mate the later transfercase shifter to the Marks adapter and locate it in the proper spot. Would there be any interest in having more made? Price would be $100 made with .25 plate. Just a feeler to see if any demand exists. I would make it available on our site diyfabparts.com

Any muffler recommendations from LS swapped folks?

I am thinking of doing a V8 swap into my Land Cruiser over time.

What is a good motor to go with that wont kill the bank account but still provide enough power and torque? What transmission is everyone using? I am not against using a Chevrolet transmission and an adapter for the transfer case.

Where is everyone sourcing their adapters, mounts, wiring harness, etc from?

I would try to find a 03-07 2wd Complete Escalade or Denali if you want a 6.0 or a Tahoe/Silverado if you want a 5.3. Piecing stuff together really adds up as you go along. If you don’t need to deal with smog it may not be as necessary to have everything but it just makes things easier.

I used a marks adapter, land cruiser shop bolt in motor mounts and had a buddy wire up the ls side of things. I used a 4l65

I say go for a 6.0. Anything 2000 and later. Make sure it has the wiring harness and ecu. 4l60 or 4l80 are pretty abundant trannys.

Awesome thank you. That is a lot better alternative to the LS3 EROD which I wouldn't mind having.

I have been researching this, and and have yet to pull the trigger.

For gen IV and earlier, I would go with a 6.0 motor. I am specifically looking at the L96 but the extra weight, and reduce fuel economy is a negative IMHO. On the other hand, it is built for commercial duty. It only comes with the 6l90 transmission which means changing the output shaft to a 32 spline.

For the Gen V motors (LT), I am considering a 5.3L. (L82, L83, L84). The L86 or L87 if you want a 6.2L but I am not sure it is needed. More power, but reduced fuel economy. I am concerned about fuel range rather than fuel cost.

As far as transmissions: 6L80, or 8L90. I prefer the 6 or 8 speeds over the 4 speed due to lower ratios, but those 4 speeds are well known and very robust

I think an early 6.0 with a 4 speed can be purchased fairly cheaply...

I am actually looking at the LQ9 which is a 6.0L out of the Silverado/Escalade. The 6 or 8 speed would be nice for that fuel economy but what are the comparisons between the 4L80 transmission as far as durability?

What are some of the common power adders people are going with? I am reading this LQ4/LQ9 modifications and trying to decide which came would be best along with the rest of the bolt on modifications.
