Well, I wanted to take the rad in to get it checked out so I had to pull that. To get the rad off you have to remove the shroud and the under guard plate. To remove rad support is only four more bolts. If I'm that far in I may as well take off the battery towers and powdercoat the lot of it. I can't put it back together with rusty old bolts so I have to plate them too.

I have to learn when to say enough is enough LOL

Sure. But not cleaning up the exposed frame, prepping it with rust mort and painting it while the bits normally attached to it are off is just daft. That's not doing a frame off; that's just working smart.

Yeah, this is just a pre-frame off!

That's a great way to sum it up!

Yeah, but when he actually gets around to doing the frame off, it will just be to paint the frame. Evertyhing else will already be done!

Sorry to say but with your skills, not doing a frame off, is a sin.

2c

The problem here lies in how high you've set the bar, mate.

That's assuming there is any frame left to paint after another one or two Alberta winters, of course :-)

Good point, on second thought leave that frame as is Kevin! ;p

Very good point; I never thought of that. Yes Kevin, don't you dare paint that frame! If anyone can make a frame which is actually better than Toyota did, it's Kevin.

What is it with you guys and the frame? The frame is solid with no holes or scales or swelling or even any significant pitting. Its just multi-colored.

It's your Midas touch, Kevin. We're simply all dying to see a gold frame.

Did some final prep yesterday to get the outer rockers flatter. Sprayed a quick blast of primer before heading to swimming lessons. Had juuuuust enough in the gun to coat it all. You can see in the last pick on the rocker I had to shake the gun to finish LOL

Nice work. Everybody has their own ideas about how restorations should be done - but I like seeing a clean (honest maybe?) "unhidden repair". Why grind the heck (and maybe weaken the area) out of something that's not seen most of the time anyway? What's that black stuff on the weld bead under the primer - POR?

Seam sealer. This stuff is supposed to stay flexible. Didn't really need to put it on the welds but I did on the underside and this is all under the floor mat so what the heck. There could be pinholes in the weld so this will seal it.
