I'm hoping to get more time on the water this year but first I need to repair the outter gunwales and deckplates. I can order the deckplates from Mad River but have to fashion my own gunwales.

@ZackR nice setup!

My green toys. Mad River Freedom, Royalex with wood trimming. Yakima gutter mount rack.

Picked up a 14' Mad River Freedom a few weeks ago and am really liking it. I've only been able to get in a couple of 10 mile river runs and am anxious to put more water under it. This is a solo boat for when I don't need the tandem Dagger.

Ooo, Ooo, can I be part of the club?

This thing has seen better days. I have paddled the snot out of it, but the last time it was on the water the gunwales broke and then pretty much everything broke after that. The only reason it made it through the set of rapids that she broke up on was due to the fact that I have a full float bag set for it.

If I could store it inside, I would just make new gunwales, thwarts and seats for it out of wood, but I have my garage full of equipment and my wood boat.

She had a good run though... :rainbow:

Just sold a freedom solo last week - was an extra boat and was just a bit too heavy when loading on the lifted 80 (my Mohawk is a bit lighter). Was a great boat, though, and the craigslist add received a ton of interest.

I love all these pictures and it makes me wish I lived somewhere where I could spend some time doing multiple day fishing and camping trips out of a canoe. I am still waiting for a picture of someone parking their cruiser with a snorkel in the water and just rowing the canoe right onto the roof for easy loading........JK Although it would be one for the story books

any of you canoe guys ever run across a Sportspal? it's an aluminum canoe in 14 and 16ft lengths very light with foam sponsons around the gunwales and foam lining the bottom of the interior. I've looked for one out here in the Southwest for a few years. Anyone maybe know of one that might be for sale?

I may have scored a cheap starter canoe to pick up this weekend. Any tips for tying down to the Bowfin Cruiser rack, particularly clearing the wind deflector is it sits up a tiny bit higher than the crossbars? Hard to see in your photos how you did it.

Gunwales down, throw a pad underneath them if necessary, don’t overthink it.
