Gunwales down, throw a pad underneath them if necessary, don’t overthink it.
Yup, problem is the gunwales want to rest on the wind deflector in the front instead of the front cross rail. I zip tied a piece of wood to the front and back cross rails and it sat up there nicely hanging over the deflector instead of on it.

Also, I found these on Amazon and ordered them for today's trip. I've used all kinds of strap methods with my motorcycles, but this DUAL Cam Jam strap worked really well. I'll be buying some more of these.

Soon....

Just finished the rack for my rack that gets the boat over the lights. Previously there was a tire up there so I broke out some 2x4s to get clearence.

Now to give the 17' Grumman a bath.

84 inch. I had ordered 1x2 aluminum bars and they come in 12 inch increments, I never have cut them down. I rarely run these as I have shorter bars and I’m rarely carrying two canoes.

that MR Explorer 16's the best layup ever made for an all around canoe! I have an older one.

The MR Explorer belongs to a friend and the Bell is mine. My friend bought it used last year, but it had hardly ever been in the water. It’s great for taking a beating but it’s heavy as hell. The Bell is royalex and weighs 50 some pounds, the MR is probably in the 80 pound range.

Ooh hhh tha is heavy. Mines Royalex and about 62 lbs

Bought a barely used Old Town Guide 147 last year for $120. Couldn’t believe it when I saw it on marketplace and it was 5 minutes from my house. Had only been down the River 2 times and came with paddles as well. My Discovery 158 is still floating but it is WELL worn and this fit the bill and the budget perfectly.
