80 series Slinky/ICON Long Travel Suspension officially coming to the U.S.A. (1 Viewer)

Why the requirement for pin mounts? I've been running those Fox 2.0 remotes for years with eye mount adapters and I think I paid $760 for all four.

Granted you need to go 4" lift instead of 2-3", but 4" is just so much easier to dial. People are spending a fortune to lose 1-2" of lift that only makes the front driveline harder to dial in caster v. pinion angle.

One of the worst obsessions is long travel shocks. Big, heavy rigs need max tire size, gearing, lockers, and suspension balance. The rest of it is mostly tit tassels.

I can't afford to lose the overall shock length. I won't be running any lift at all.
If I run pin adapters I would be limited to an 8" travel shock.....I'd like to fit about a 10-11" front and 10" rear travel shock.
I can do that and still maintain some preload on the stock length springs.

I'm building a hybrid, so not really the same thing, but I am using a complete 80-series chassis. The overall weight has been drastically reduced. Engine, trans, tcase replaced. Completely new little FJ45-esk pickup body. 40" tires, no lift, and the suspension needs to compress all the way to basically metal on metal to preserve uptravel with the low stance.

I don't want to stir the pot or get people in an up rore, but it would be nice to know how many people have received & installed the complete kit.
What do you have, how do you like the Slinky set up & how do you use it?

I have everything except the 4 shocks from Icon, which I understand will be shipped directly from them once built...
Fortunately I'm never in a rush. Funny because it has almost been a year since the order and even if I did have everything I would not have installed yet... I know, I'm special. Truck is currently with OTRAMM for some "minor" engine work...

A year!!!! That's crazy. Sorry but who wants to wait that long. I just went on Web page and springs are out of stock.

It's a bit crazy, however the kit was not available in this hemisphere when everything started, hence I prepared for a long lead time. Known-Knowns, Known-Unknowns, and even Unkown-Unkowns were accounted for in my planning. Plus I have been researching kits for a few years before this one became an option. So what's another year...for me...eh; I'm a weekend warrior at best and the truck sits at a manageable height as is (33's with 30mm spring spacers).

Am I missing something? I have Slee springs and Fox Shocks and the ride is solid, but bouncy on rocky trails (as one would expect). I seriously considered SLINKY as they are sure to be smoother over the ruff stuff, but I just can't see $4000 in shocks and springs on these trucks. At their age there is always impending motor recuilds, front end rebuilds, brakes, interior issues, and the list goes on. All with a truck thats not worth the sum of it's parts. I love the platform, and the idea of these shocks, but for those of you that have them, is it WORTH the price? Serious question not trolling.

$4K for shocks and springs...yeah, for my purposes that would not be justified; hence I opted for the 75mm intermediate kit. With the "early-bird" discount I paid a bit less than $2K for the shocks, springs, and other bits that come with the kit (including brake lines).
To fairly answer your question: the only thing you are missing is to evaluate what kit would work for your needs and then compare that price to other options that meet the same specifications/criteria.

I finally got off the pavement with mine last weekend in Death Valley. Did some slow crawling and some faster washboards. I was really happy with the ride. No bouncing or harsh bottom outs. I went with the 50mm intermediate and it was a hair under $2k. I don't have anything to compare it to on this vehicle but I've had a number of other lifted vehicles in the past and this is the best riding setup I've had to date. Dealing with redline was a major PITA. I can't even count the number of phone calls I've had to make checking the status or trying to get the correct parts. I'm still missing the rear protective shock boots but I've given up. I'm just going to order a set on eBay.

the first hint that these kicked butt was when i hit the train tracks on the way to work and barely felt them. as i've gotten older, i've preferred queiter and more comfortable, so yeah, to me, they're worth it, but again, i got in on the early bird too

@AutoCraft Aus

Is there a way to order Slinky Springs for a diesel 80 series in the US? (from what I've read, diesel spec springs are slightly softer)

G'Day Lumpskie,

the diesel and petrol coils are the same, there is a couple of hundred pounds difference between the petrol and diesel vehicle, but the spring rate works for both, as we do mainly diesels with these kits here.

That's good to know. Thanks for the quick reply!

Does anyone have a good breakdown of the specs of the 2" stage 1 vs the 3" stage 1 kit? I've been told that the shocks are shorter on the 2" and I'm wondering what the actual spring and shock specs are.

Also, has anyone got good flex pictures/data, like @GW Nugget did with his 3" setup? I'm just curious if there are more differences between these setups than the standing height.

Just got off the phone with Justin and he has 5 complete Stage 1 75mm kits in stock and ready to ship. He said he can do either intermediate or heavy kits. Sounds like a good time to jump on these and not have to deal with a wait for parts to arrive.

It's always worth thinking about whether you rock crawl or overland.

The endless issue with these rigs is rock crawling day trips on overland designs. In the U.S. anyway.

Things like how you add weight...or more importantly don't...how you rob clearance...or more importantly don't...are the first dominoes to fall in whatever you are going to chase with your wallet.
