Just arrived home and had a special delivery from @thorslc1977. He kindly donated this pump for the project after I chipped mine taking it apart.

Make sure you have the small bushing in the smog pump bracket on the right side ear of the bracket. they usually fall out and your pump will not line up with the pulley. It would be a constant adjustment of the pump.
otherwise good work on the cruiser.

After watching your smog video (Thanks by the way - fun to watch) - I offer one thought based on my experience with an exhaust leak. And full disclosure I am pretty much and OEM junkie.

In the video you said you would get a new OEM manifold gasket. I ditched the OEM manifold gasket and have used this (Remflex) with great success on two different occasions. 1) to fix leak along the manifolds before I realize the engine needs to be rebuilt (it worked well) and 2) Thought it did better that OEM so used with the engine rebuild.

It is thicker & more malleable so it will compensate for imperfections with the intake/exhaust manifolds (I had mine machined at the shop to correct). Anyway, I offer that as non-oem product I would recommend.

I’ll keep that in mind on the re-assembly, thank you!

Great video. I admire your positive attitude. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! I’m trying my best to not get frustrated with these dang brass plugs stuck in the head haha

What did you use to paint the air cleaner?
It’s kind of a running joke in this build, but everything that’s black has been painted with rustoleum rust reformer and steelit 😄

Ahh yes! That’s what I just watched on Hagerty’s latest redline YouTube build. I thought oem would be like remflex, didn’t know it would be the same type of material like what I took off.

Thank you for the link, I’ll get it ordered right up 👍🏼

Dumb idea thought- maybe be you are already doing it/tried.

Did you try with the engine hot (I know you took stuff off). But maybe there was
Some high-temp thread locker used
Vs thread sealer ?

So the two plugs that are stuck were both threaded in deep and bottomed out. I'm fighting the bottoming out issue more than the threads themselves. Luckily the material is really soft and I have one drilled out almost all the way to the threads that I plan to try and remove with a tap. Tried everything I could before getting to that point and it still won't budge. Worst case, I plan to use a time-sert in those two .

Wow...what a great thread. Lots of good, practical information. You've got yourself a real beauty there, and it's obvious that you're treating her right. It's motivating me to step it up on mine. Now I just gotta figure out how to afford the lift and 33's......and a case of Steelit!

That steelit is some good stuff haha. Thanks for checking out the thread!

Currently battling the gaint rain storm CA is getting pounded with. No progress on the 40 until the weather clears up :(

Got an electric pump (top right corner) pumping water out to the street.

I'm running one of those pumps right now, too! Except mine is to drain an actual pool here in my neighborhood. Good luck with the weather - hope if clears up for you soon and you avoid any damages.

Thanks! This little pump has saved us through a couple good storms now 🤞

The rain spared me an hour and I jammed outside to try getting the two stuck plugs out.

This took many steps to complete, but first I drilled out the plug as much as possible. Second, I dremelled out as much as I could down to the steel threads on the head. Third, I carefully tapped the skim brass shell out of the threads and last I picked out the lower remaining bits.

One more to go!
