Put some big brakes on the Tacoma yesterday. TRD Stoptech st40 calipers custom fit from the 1st gen tundra optional big brake kit. Had to stick with 4 piston since I’m running 16’s

Took a gamble and ordered the top two decals from cruiserparts.net, but they are the only seller I could find with the CA vacuum emissions decal. Fortunately they came within a week! Ordered up the 2f decal off ebay and now I'm done with all that.

Welp, she failed smog pre-test but not by much! A little fine tuning sorted out co2, hc & o2 readings, but we couldn’t get the co reading any lower than 2.0 (max allowable is 1.59).

He is confident this old pile o’ parts that came with the Land Cruiser will sort out the co readings. I guess the thermal reactor exhaust manifold is the grandad catalytic and helps burn off fuel from the exhaust. Also, the air pump will help lean out the mixture while on the rollers. The silver lining is that it would be all legal again and shouldn’t be an issue smogging in the future…

You are sooo close. It sounds like you will get there soon. It is very fortunate that your father-in-law saved all of that stuff.
Yes, I am super lucky to have that crate. Detailing everything before it goes back on will take the most time, but I can see the finish line for sure :D

Side note: It was awesome driving on the freeway listening to some tunes with the retrosound radio and new speakers. Tuned into the Classic Rock station on Pandora via bluetooth and hogged the slow lane 🐌

It's sad that you have to deal with such nonsense. Hope you get it running "cleaner" soon. Just remember all this trouble you're unnecessarily dealing with the next time your coloring in those little black squares at the ballot box.

Gio, you've got the skill to get it done in no time!
I appreciate the words of confidence!

Just opened up the shed to dig out the goods and let the insects find their way out 😂

After doing lots of reading on this forum I did a quick check of some key issues. No cracks on manifold, flapper valve is not stuck, air pump is not seized. However I will need a flange from the exhaust to manifold…

Curious, if you were able to hit a passing CO level while de-smogged, are the California inspections thorough enough that they'd still fail you for not having the smog pump and emissions computer in place?

It would have failed visual but that's much easier to find someone who would let it slide. The rollers have inputs for gvwr and they will know if another car is trying to be used to pass the sniffer instead of the Land Cruiser, so finding someone to get the sniffer passed is the true obstacle. I did get a few referrals but they cost a lot and I'd rather put that money into getting it right.

I know you have done quite a bit of work to your rig. But did you replace the PCV valve air cleaner change the oil.? prior too taking it in?
Did you drive the truck and get it up to temp before you took it in?

your running headers also. that as a visual would not pass. you also don't have an air pump and you have that hose inlet blocked off on the air cleaner.
But as I am writing this I see you have your old equipment. that should do the trick. Great job on the truck she is looking good.

That's pretty smart lol, but I'm confident I have all the hard to find parts. It seems like literally every thing including nuts & bolts that were removed were saved. I found the mounts and rubber o-ring for the tool bag, and even the yellow color matched bolts missing from the engine bay.

Can anyone tell me where the parts circled in red go?

The switch on the right is throttle position switch.
It attaches in front of the gas pedal. Pedal should have a paddle like piece to left that activates it.

Awesome, one mystery solved!

Does anyone have or know of a lead on carb legal downey/marks headers for sale? I have a non carb legal set that doesn't include the bung for the egr. I'd like to get that on instead of the factory header.
