Should have just ordered the full TRE kit because this new end stripped with not much torque applied. Now gotta wait a few more days for parts to arrive. And on to cutting it out since the crown nut just spins.

As I’m waiting on parts, thought I’d work on the roof tomorrow and Friday. From the looks of it, someone stood on the roof and bent the internal supports in the cab. And now it oil cans loudly as a result. My plan is to push the roof out to the correct contour and use a floor jack inside to push the bows back. But since their integrity has been compromised, should I tack weld the bows to the underside of the roof or somehow strengthen them? Ideas of how to fix this would be much appreciated. @RUSH55 I seem to recall you did something to your internal roof supports.

I would use a bottle jack and a couple of 2x4’s to get it where you want it I would be less inclined to weld it and use something like Sika-flex between the panels and the cross members to cut down on any vibrations or noises.

Ideas of how to fix this would be much appreciated. @RUSH55 I seem to recall you did something to your internal roof supports.

What I did is what @scrapdaddy and @xtiaan2000 did, which is a lot of work, welding, fabricating, expensive one-time tool use purchases, etc…
Maybe try removing the factory roof supports and bend them back into shape or search out some replacements.

Taking lunch break. Here’s how I spent my morning. I cut some 3”x26” strips out of 5/32” sheet metal. I welded one side into the side near the roof and used floor jacks to bend the strips to the contour of the roof and then welded the other end into the factory center roof support. Did both sides and didn’t seem to make a difference. Hmmm. So, went to Tractor supply and bought a 6’ section of 3/8” solid steel tubing. Cut that to the approximate width needed for one solid piece and bent to match a headliner bow. I put the piece in and used the floor jacks to push it against the roof and welded the sides. This looks more promising. We’ll see.

Also, TRE came today and are in. Just need to grease, install cotter pins and tires. I’ll report more this afternoon after driving.

Well, it drives much better and didn’t oil can once. But, once I got up to about 55 mph, she was screening something awful. Could a broken fin on the fan cause that bc that’s were the noise seems to be coming from?

All depends. Does the fan have a clutch?

In my experience the loudest part of a 1F/2F is the drivetrain like the trans and transfer case.

The valve train makes the most noise next after that.

No fan clutch. This noise just started since the last time I drove it a few days ago. So, I think it's something that's changed since then.

Do you have a mechanics stethoscope? I’d bet you have a bearing going out. I can’t imagine that fin on the fan causing that much noise.

Thanks. I don’t have a stethoscope. I’ll replace the fan and see if that does it.

Nice work on the roof. I assume the noise isn't just a belt? Could also be the water pump bearing and that is something that can happen suddenly. Just thinking out loud.

I was thinking the water pump might be the source too. I’ve got a new one in my stash. I ordered all new hoses yesterday. So, I’ll replace the pump, hoses and fan next week and see. In the meantime, she’s in the corner wearing the dunce cap.

Disassembled and waiting for radiator hoses and fan. New heater hoses are in. First time I’ve seen a thermostat with this orientation. Is this correct and I’ve put them upside down all these years?

Maybe a belt driven accessory?
You could remove one belt at a time and see if that changes the noise.
