Should I get rid of this smog stuff? Maybe that’d help?

Yes. That VCV probably leaks and doesn't work anyway. But, then you'll need a vacuum source for the dizzy, unless you have the original vacuum retard dizzy, in which case forget about that vacuum line.
 
Basically, the conclusion is this f155 has some miles on her, but still runs well, doesn’t leak or smoke. Took her for a drive and she cruises at 65, no problem.
You really can't ask for much more. Those Late F engines, theoretically, with the improved oiling, should be the longest lived of the F series. The head studs are longer too, a one-year-only thing. Have you adjusted the valves yet?
 
Not yet. I considered it, but decided to move on to other garage work.

The dizzy is vacuum advance and I verified that it works. So, maybe, I’ll get rid of that smog stuff and run the vacuum line from the side of the carb. Do you think that one vacuum port can run both the dizzy and the vacuum secondary on the carb?

I'm pretty sure that you don't have a vacuum secondary on that carb. That diaphragm there is for the "throttle positioner", which, I think, was to slow how quickly the throttle closed when you took your foot off the gas. I also think it was part of the smog stuff so I took mine off and capped that port. That port just might work for a vacuum advance dizzy. There is another spot at the base of the carb for the dizzy vacuum that some carbs have and you can have added to yours. Ported vacuum is weird and I don't fully understand it but it's not like manifold vacuum, it's weaker and comes on at weird times. Won't hurt to give it a try.

As I recall, and I've done it twice, the transition case is special as it is allows you to put the gears from a 3-speed case into it. The crawl ratio jumps a massive 4% or 6% or something like that. There used to be a write-up in the tech links but I can't find it anymore.
So the txfr case itself does not have the lower gear, but you can stuff a 3-spd lo gear in it to gain a little crawl?
 
That may not be the best place to get an accurate vacuum reading. But it might be, I don't know. I use one of the threaded ports right on the manifold.
Back in the day, before adjustable timing lights, we would time by manifold vacuum: advance until you got your best idle vacuum, then back off just a hair. Back off a little more if it pinged.
Add the third element of adjusting idle mix and you have the Three Amigos of the lean drop method.

IIRC you set idle speed to 650, lean the idle mix to right where vacuum starts to decrease, increase timing to max vacuum, re-set idle speed, and then take her for a drive and listen for pinging.
 
I tried more advance taking vacuum from an intake port. When I advance the timing, I’d get more vacuum but, mostly, because my idle rpm’s would increase. By the time I set the idle back to 650 at advanced setting, the vacuum would be back to where it was originally. So, I set the timing back to 9o above TDC and after adjusting idle I was at about -14 in Hg.

I went ahead and checked compression and cleaned all the plugs. The compression looks consistent, but low.

Basically, the conclusion is this f155 has some miles on her, but still runs well, doesn’t leak or smoke. Took her for a drive and she cruises at 65, no problem. Went up to 75 and could have kept going, but the speed limit was 55, so cooled it. She’s a bit ugly, but this is a good running pig.

Oh, fixed the door and seat belts too. Might work on the tailgate window mechanism next, but got a few other rigs that need attention first.

What was your fix for the driver door latch?
 
Maybe wire up kill switch like in boat, hate to have pig run off if you rolled out!
Or maybe just wear your seatbelt? He could also be like those cool Jeep people and just take your doors off.
 
You need this… a Jet ski leash for the key.

If you get flung out then it kills the throttle and your pig will just circle you until you can climb back in! Haha

Um, before you bet the farm on that...try pulling the key out of the ignition switch while it's running. My key has fallen out of the switch once or twice, Pig didn't notice.
