Spent the weekend finishing up small projects on the 40, re-covered my stock seats...

Hey Tucker, you've got to post pics of those new orange seats :D

Do I need to come over there this weekend and install the new tub for ya? ;)

Hummmm, Spotted Tucker's truck at this undisclosed shop in central Austin, something you want to share with the group? :D

Umm, a few hints in the pic suggest a muffler shop.

Ding, ding - having a new y-pipe made with O2 sensor bungs ;)

Found some hoses with the proper bends to hook up my heater:

And some bling coral covers from Shane:

It's coming along, some little projects to work on this weekend and hopefully inspection on Monday. Plan is to drive it to the LSLC Roundup next Friday (~250miles). We'll see -

Spent the weekend finishing up small projects on the 40, re-covered my stock seats (thanks Shane), cleaned up and painted all the brackets, and installed the interior and carpet. Then I installed the cluster and heater and started running the coolant hoses (need to buy some), then ran new cowl drain hoses. Also ran the throttle cable through the firewall and installed my Weber pedal so she's drivable.

I went ahead and ran hoses from the tank vents to the fuel separator before I installed the cover, it's just plugged at the output for now but will need to hook up the charcoal canister (this was all deleted previously). Found a small leak at injectors 3 & 4, will have to pull the plenum and re-seat the o-rings :frown:

Hope to have it at the muffler shop by Wed to have the y-pipe made :)

Tell me more about the Weber pedal!

I am running a FJ-62 pedal in my 55 and it is uncomforatable!!!

I traded my pedal and linkage to another local guy who was going back to a stock carb, it's the pedal that comes with Weber linkage kit #99007.745. Basically a stock pedal that takes a cable barrel, I used the stock cable from the 62 with it ;) On the hoses I just went to my local O'Reilly's auto parts and grabbed some hoses that had bends I thought would work and trimmed them. I can get you parts numbers if you want, but I'm sure you could do the same. All I'm lacking for an inspection is my blinkers, for some reason they stopped working (think it's the relay). Should have some more pics from Cruiser's and Coffee in the morning -

Those seats look great! I would of never thought of using that color!

Driving it to cruisers and coffee in the AM?

Tucker can't wait to see it in the AM. Mark do you need to borrow a Cruiser to get into the parking lot?

Update

Well the truck has been complete and drivable for a little over a week, was able to get it inspected Thurs after some blinker trouble shooting in the original harness. So Friday morning I packed it up and headed 120 miles west to Katemcy for the LSLC Roundup :D We had a small caravan with another 40 and a 60, I made it out w/o any issues and averaged over 16mpg at ~65mph for the trip out. Just as a comparison the other 40 in our group was a '77 running 33x9.50s vs. my 33x10.50s with his stock 2F and got just over 13mpg on the same stretch.

The EFI was great out on the trail, was able to make multiple climbs that had carb bowls emptying on the 2Fs ;) The only issue I had was with the fuel tank building pressure due to the electric pump recirculating, need to get a separator/charcoal canister back installed on the rig.

Here's some picks from the trip:

Tucker, Wow your a brave man to make round up your "shake down" trip for the truck. I seem to remember having a back pressure issue on my FJ40 install as well, and I think I solved it with a small whole drilled into my gas cap, or maybe I used a late modle gas cap..? I can't remember.

Interesting. I didn't have this problem, but I am running a charcoal canister. I did have a problem with the way the canister was plumbed at the tank (tank manufacture porting), but resolved it by raising the source line so it didn't suck fuel, and pulled vapor instead of gas (job of the separator?)

Glad to see another successful 3FE install. Sure wish I saw 16mpg. Best I get is 14mpg.

My '76 has a sealed cap as it originally came with the separator/charcoal canister installed to vent the tank vapors. The tank was plugged and system removed when the PO desmogged the 2F years ago, never gave me issues with the low pressure mechanical pump return. I've got a separator but am looking for a 40 charcoal canister, the one from the 62 is just too damn big to put it where I want ;)

I'm stoked about the mileage as well, I was getting ~9mpg with the carbed 2F :frown:

I have the same pressure build up in my tank. Never had it before when I was running my Weber'd 2F with the mech pump. It's a poly tank. My charcoal canister is still present as well as the seperator, but I think I have some clogged/old lines. Right now I just have my stock cap loosely on top of the fill hole(not screwed on). It's working for right now, but will need something permanent. I've thought about completely removing the seperater/charcoal canister and plugging all but one vent line. Then I can run that line down inside the frame rail and put a small cone type filter on the end of it.

So I tried to start my 3FE today but didnt work...
I checked to see if I was getting a spark and it looks as if I am and I checked to see if I am getting fuel which it seems that I am.

When I turn my motor over I hear the AFM getting slammed shut from blow back I guess. I dont have all my body panels back but I have my Fuel pump, ECU and the bracket for the Coil connected to the - terminal so its grounded.

I tried twisting the distributor to see if it was just really off and that didnt work either.
Checked all Fuses and all are good.. Not sure what else to do here?

This is where it sits.

So tuck, you mentioned in another thread that you're running an 80 series non-airbag steering wheel. Could you throw up a pic of that setup? Never heard of that or seen that before.

Hey - hadn't checked this thread in a while, just been enjoying the truck since the conversion. Here's a pic of the 80 steering wheel:

And my last little project, had a Con-Ferr seat I got from Mark A. recovered to match my coral seats:

Will be starting on the aluminum tub soon, will probably start a new thread for that ;)
