On a side note, I might consider shipping cruiser out and driving it back, especially if I take the 45, so I'd be interested to see a one way estimate

I think the closest affordable airport would be Reno. Would also be a good drop point for shipping.

Reno is about $300-400 one way for the same timeframe this year. Points are free! :)

Cool with me, I like Reno "the biggest little city in the world"

The more I look at the map the more I think ship out drive back is the way to go :D So arrive in Reno Friday night/ Sat morning pick up the trucks on Sat. spend Sunday getting trucks prepped and heading over the mountians to Loon Lake. Camp there Sunday night and hit the trail early Monday morning.

A question on shipping are the shippers going to allow us to store all our gear and crap in the vehicle to ship them out. I know when I have shipped 40's before the shippers required any loose "valuebles" be removed prior to shipping as it was a liabilty isssue for them.

Another thought, on the route from the Con to Moab, due we want to blast down the I-80 to Salt Lake or would we prefer to take some of the senic back-roads like Highway 50 "loneliest road in america".... If I take the 45 I'd prefer the slow, stead, and scenic route :hillbilly:

One last thought and an important one at that, what is everyones window of oppurtunity, I can get 2 weeks off so that gives me the date range of Friday September 13th- 29th a Sunday...

I can do two weeks with this much lead time.

Gear in trucks may be a problem...one I haven't sorted out yet.

Need to get quotes and have those discussions...I was thinking a private carrier with a dedicated load. If you and I go, we could probably get a full load with one more.

Well I am def. in on the hauler out now, and hopeful Rick will join in soon... that would give us 3 for sure.

Also if we have 2 weeks I'd recommend the Quray/ Silverton area since it is so close to Moab.... or the Kokapelli trail would be cool too, Kokopelli 4×4 Trail | IntrepidXJ's Adventure Blog

The Con should take us a max of 3 days then 2 days of travel time to Moab leaves us with roughly 7 days in that area before we'd have to head home so that opens up a lot of possibilities

man I am going to heart broken if this doens't come together :o

I'm curious about shipping/hauler too. I'm not a frequent flier, so I got no points/skymiles etc...and I'm open for whatever route we do. I did the I-40 route to Ouray 5 years ago, but don't feel too strongly about which route we go or return.

And I am crazy enough to think about driving your old 45 out there.... she is getting ready to get a diesel so fuel wise it would make the most sense. You in the Troopy and me in the LPB would make quite the sight convoying across the country :D

Ha! A diesel in the lpb?! 3b, 2h? That is awesome!

Man, that would be a looong drive. Again, that would be a memorable event!

Are you going to the ga cruisers pig roast / durhamtown ride on the 20th? Let me know! :steer:

Car haulers will cost u about $1000 per truck one way. The more cruisers u have, bigger the discount. You might have to put them on a flat bed trailer. Depends on lift and tire width. I did some research since some of us ONSC wanted to do the rubi in 2013.

Well the LPB is going to be like the little engine that could ;) it is getting a B diesel, but it will have a fresh rebuild and turbo so hopefully it will be slightly quicker than a snail :hillbilly:

didn't even know about the ride at durhamtown, wish I could make it but I am book for the next couple of weeks :o

I am going to start hashing out an itinerary tomorrow, so lets keep this rolling

Could you share your info? Any particular companies or why/why not?

I am shopping for small carriers that we can rely on vs. a big corporation that won't let us haul gear. The other option I thought of would be a container and freight, assuming we could fit it all in there.

When you guys head this way can you bring some crawdads and BBQ?

We got you covered on the BBQ, but your gotta headed to louisiana for the crawdads

I think a small private carrier is going to be out best bet. We really have to find some one who will allow us to bring all our junk, and if I bring my 45 if it is okay with you guys I might have to stash some of my gear in your rigs until we pick the trucks up as the 45 doesn't have hard doors or top :hillbilly:

in the ghettoooooooooo!

Will be pretty funny to see an old 45, an FJ, and a GX rolling around the country together :)

We should get Toyota and Lexus to sponsor us.

Across the Generations and Country Expo!

Just submitted a request for quote to a large carrier with all the detail and as a "custom quote" so we can do exactly what we want and see how bad it will be worst case. I am still trying to find reliable small carriers that cover that distance.

I made the mistake of contacting a broker for the trucking companies. I received a hundred phone calls and im still getting the emails. Be careful on who u contact u may be attacked by shippers!

I will post more about what i found out when im on my pc.
