2013 - West Coast Dream - Rubicon and Moab

Reno was in my thoughts because I have a good friend there that could receive if we shipped commercially and couldn't get there in time or sent them ahead of time. Sac is obviously a good choice too if we can work out the topic. Round trip makes it VERY "deadliney" because now we have money in and a person waiting for us at the other end vs. making our own way. I would rather pay more for the freedom of driving back than feel the pressure.

I personally will be planning on having Toyota and Lexus with major spares in stock and possibly carry a rear third, CVs, etc. in the truck. Just have to see what sort of space I will have. I know I am going to have a lot more armor than current by the time this rolls around (rear bumper with quarter, possibly front fender rails). I already have everything else. If the budget can allow it I want to go up a bit more and get 35s in, but my current tire seems to be a super sweet spot with a V8 and snappy snappy.

Hey guys, stumbled on your trip here. Sounds awesome.

A few suggestions:
-Check Sac for flights and shipping. Its about 1 hour closer to the trailhead.
- See if you can find an LTL hauler (1-ton pickups usually) for the vehicles. You might get a better deal if you ship both ways somehow (maybe they pickup in Utah again?). Smaller guys won't want to haul out west and deadhead back, you might get a better round trip deal. If they need to kill a week, CA would provide a lot of opportunities.
- Definitely plan on a day after the Rubicon for repairs. Something will break.
-33s are fine, esp with at least one locker but have lots of protection, especially rocker and quarter panel.

Hope it all comes together!

Thanks alot for the tips.... good to know 33's will make it OK

Ok just got of the phone with the ol man...Looks like we are gonna plan on it. We've been kickin it aronud for a couple years.
JP ...Grand Canyon . Dad and I have never been there. Other than that sounds good.
Dan .. my dad was in shipping for 30 + years ,we'll try and drum up some contacts.

My route looks like Houston, San Antonio, Juarez, Tucson, Phoenix, Vegas, Reno. 1908 miles. With no convoy and just me, I'll probably want to ship both ways.

Oh, and we have crawfish in Houston!

I like it, our little group is growing.... good to see others crazy enough to join us on this adventure

bumping. I am revising my trip dream down to cruise moab and making it real.

I will be registering (May 1-5 2013) and driving there and back.

I made the progress I wanted to make on the GX so I am ready.

Who is in? I am thinking we take off April 29th, drive hard for two days, then May 1-4 wheel and drive 2 days back for the 6th PM return.

I had planned to hit up the Relic Run this summer in Utah, but if that for some reason doesn't work out I'd be up for Moab. I won't know for sure for a while but I'm going to keep this in mind.

Still want to do the Con at some point!!!

I am definitely getting Moab in this year. I can try and get the Rubi too, but the timing will be hard for '13.

Perhaps '14 for the Rubicon, but I sense the window closing on that place. :(

We'll see, but I'd rather skip the Cruise Moab event to avoid the crowd, same with Rubithon I think.

I have never been so that is going to be my target. I just put in for vacation at work and got the okay from the CEO (being the wife) :)

Rick... I will likely be tooling around out west at some point this summer in the Colorado/ Utah area. Our goal is to do the Relic Run(3day event) but after that we are open. Maybe something like the 1989 "Ride the Divide" Land Rover did crossing Colorado all off-road.... it'd be nice to get off the beaten path:beer:

If you are interested we can talk at the X-mas party

No love for CM13 :(

I am still gonna go!

I will put the Rubicon on '14 list or a lucky summer trip in '13 if I have the time. If I do it in '14 I can do the long travel and get on 35s before I hit it.

I am in for CM13 if the Relic Run doesn't work out, but I had already made plans to attend that event months ago. It is limited enrollment event so I might not make the cut in which case I'll be joing you Dan-O :D

2014 I am in for the Con and I'd love to squeeze in Dusy Ersham as well, it look more epic at almost double the length of the Con.

The 80 should have the diesel in by then and I will be ready to rock

Cat started asking "Where we are going this year?", so maybe a cross country trip will happen. The Round Up or Razorback Ramble at a minimum. I'd really like to get out further like CO, UT or ID. She's not feeling so tied down to her job now, so taking off two weeks is more of a reality for us.

Just reserved a cabin at Slickrock Campground for Cruise Moab (May 1-5). If anyone wants to go we can split the costs if you want a real bed.
