Another option (I will take a pic of mine later today) it is pipe off the stock sensor location. My stock gauge and my manual gauge are using the same location and I was planning on using this location as well for the EFI temp sensor.

Ok was able to snap one quick (need to fix that crimp connection)

Next questions:
Downey adapter...

1. "L" Bracket is for...? And where does it go?

2. Bolts provided...
a. Bolts on left are bracket to Holley?
b. Bolts on right Downey to manifold replacing the studs?

@Willard am I being overly anal if I worry if the coolant that reaches the sensor probes up in that "T" fitting are an accurate (enough) reading of the temp deeper in the head?

I can see your point, But I have yet to have any reason to doubt it. Plus thermo probes on various parts of the engine and fluids have shown the mechanical gauge to be within 1-2 degrees. So I will call it good. The factory gauge is questionable, but then all are.

Did you leave the spacer that goes under the carb? The heat shielding sort of thing?

If you do not have the thick Downey adapter (I don't think he makes this one anymore) then you will have to to use the carb insulator to get the height you need to clear the Sniper.

You can also you the tube coming off of the insulator as a dump for your charcoal canister. I think @FJ60Cam had some luck with this.

I have whatever adapter Downey is selling now.

Its the thin one then. I believe I snagged the last thick one. You should use your insulator. Just grabbed some new gaskets and roll.

Acquiring some fun parts for upcoming modifications on the 60! I snagged a 4x4 Labs rear bumper! A lot of people were involved in my getting it, thank you all! @Bomar grabbed it in Arkansas then delivered it to @FJ60Cam in Memphis and then delivered it to @wngrog there it sits till I can get it installed!! I’ve had s set of sliders built for awhile now and should get my hands on them this weekend. Both should give me some great protection and that rear bumper is heavy. Glad I got airbags installed.

I was suffering mud and found a complete 60 axle with arb locker, compressor, and all the wiring. I had plans of cleaning my rear axle up and installing a locker eventually, but this accelerated it. So, the plan is to clean it up, test it, and replace everything I can so it will be right when install it.

Then there is my steering box. It’s leaking and sloppy! I found a nice used one from the same year. @wngrog had it rebuilt with one of his. Now it’s back and ready to be installed.

I have a lot of work left on this rig! It’s running perfect and the a/c is blowing cold. So it’s time to put some more miles on it!

I have 2 more questions:

1. Fitment of Mr Gasket air cleaner adapters between Holley and stock air cleaner. One of the two cone shaped adapters fits into the air cleaner the other one is a little too large. The one that fits in seems a little too small reducing the air that will flow through.... Is this going to be a problem? Are people modifying these parts? Secondly the fitment to the top of the Holly doesn't seem to work snugly with the adapter rings. Should any of this have rubber gaskets or anything to seal it up better?

This is a pic of Dustin's... how does the cone top fit to the ring?

2. The holes in the gaskets supplied with the Downey adapter don't line up with the four holes to mount it to the top of the intake. Do I have the wrong gaskets or should I just open up the holes a little?

so there had been some discussion about a hand throttle.... You can see that I have a hand throttle style gas pedal on my 60 and I have had an OEM (diesel?) hand throttle for a while. The Downey throttle cable looks like it's going to work with that spot on the pedal... Will report back.

AIR CLEANER OPTIONS

In a 60 that is 99.99% a trail truck doing lots of slow rock climbing etc in the warm summer months will there be any significant real-world advantage/disadvantage to any of these options over the others?

1. OEM housing/filter with tube up to the hole next to the headlight (stock configuration)
2. OEM housing/filter without tube
3. Aftermarket housing that sits on top of the Holley with a "good" filter.

I like the simplicity of a smaller filter on top of the Holley but don't want to do something counter-productive to the health of the 2F...

So for the air cleaner I had to take a file to get rid of the lip on one piece so it sits flus on the gasket supplied with the Sniper. Once that was completed it fit snug. I’ve had zero issues using the Mr gasket adapter. Plenty of flow. I did rethread my rod to take a Toyota wing nut and my factory air box snugs everything up nicely. If you decide to use factory box you’ll move a few brackets around to make it work. The small round air cleaner Downey sales that says efi on it doesn’t look terrible. It really cleans the engine bay up too!

For the gasket if I remember correctly you keep flipping it till you get it right. It’s a one way only setup

If your running a throttle cable to your hand throttle bracket that would knock you out of installing a ha d throttle.

I have two I’m trying to fit only because I want one and my bracket is free.

The 60 got a set of sliders today. Shaw fab knocked these out for me and they look great! Next on the list is to get the 4x4 Labs bumper set up and going. The sniper is running better than ever!
