Well, look what I found!!! Just hanging out in this guys backyard!!

It is was not up for sale, but I want to make this guy an offer. I hate to see history just rust down to nothing. Know what I mean?

I have been asking around and now I'm asking y'all.

How much should I offer this guy?

Does anyone know much about it? year make and model... etc

Finally, is it worth the effort to save.. don't know much more than what the pictures show.

Great thread Douglas!! Subscribed

But, what's all that brown stuff? I haven't seen any of that out here

Thank you sir!!

As far as that "brown stuff" Im not really sure:meh:.. So I called a guy I know, (Google) and asked him. ;)

He said "Rust is a reddish or yellowish brown flaky coating of iron oxide that is formed on iron or steel by oxidation, especially in the presence of moisture. " He continues, " Rust is an iron oxide, usually red oxide formed by the redox reaction of iron and oxygen in the presence of water or air moisture. Several forms of rust are distinguishable both visually and by spectroscopy, and form under different circumstances.":moon::moon:

BTW: LOVE LOVE LOVE your adventures out in the desert! Along with your two best friends. For now, I am having to live vicariously though your pictures of adventure.

Perhaps if you offered the guy $1K for the trailer; and then put another $2-3K into it to refurb it & customize it slightly or in some way. Or perhaps a few more $K's on top of that, once you've obtained it, to customize it even more so - as in mounted tent, cabinets, refridge, etc ? ~Skydog

I m thinking the same thing....nothing like dropping a few coins on the things you love..:bounce:

That tree in the backyard, the one I planted 20 years ago, that MONEY TREE.... dam thing still isn't growing any. Im going to have to take it back to Home Depot and get a refund.

Don't take the money tree back to Home Depot for a refund. ... Sure, they'll no doubt give you your money back. But problem is, you, or I, or Joe, will then only turn around and give Home Depot that same money back once again to them - for some other cool looking toy of theirs... :-)

Keep in mind : if he doesn't actually intend to sell the trailer tomorrow, you can always buy it from him next week... :-)

@Skydog well you nailed it. The dad told his son that it was his dad's trailer and he just couldn't sell it. I told the son I understood. I also told him that if he didn't start taking of it there wouldnt be a trailer left.

I wasn't trying to be rude, but gosh. If something is that important, memories of your dear ole dad, then I would take better care it.. .:deadhorse:.

Oh well maybe next week.

As you and others here know, basically everything is for sale (except that of my own March 1979 '40 :-D ). And as you & I have probably experienced, sometimes we cross objects in out path, or maybe, with a bit of luck, that of a beautiful woman, that we instantly sense deep within ourselves "her soul is the same as mine." And with odds like that of Las Vegas, or perhaps that of the more common Mega-Millions lottery, a little bit of magical dust falls upon our shoulders - and we land yet another toy in our driveway :-D

Sometimes often, when we're able to obtain a piece of something at an overly attractive to us deal or offer, that deal or offer is actually not yet win-win. What I suggest is that along the lines of a common or typical sponsorship. We're not sold the Ferrari at half price to race around the track. The dealership actually wants their name on it, that the dealership's name can be seen & drooled upon by the rest of the world. And similarly, we're not given the Million dollar violin to play at our recital, just because its owner is really nice. In honest, its owner actually wants to be able to sit front & center, and listen to the violin being played by the keen talent of your soul. Etc.

So, what if you offered to this person a similarly attractive deal he pretty much can't refuse ? What if you assured the person, that yes, you're indeed interested in the "interesting looking trailer," and that $800 is all that you really can afford to offer (anything below that, he'll think of you as being a Deplorable :) ) - and that not only will you properly restore his trailer to the glory of its soul, you'll also print the father's name permanently on it "With Appreciation & Honor of D.B. Cooper - Elusive Hijacker" ... etc. Not obnoxiously written, nor overly large, but just enough & tastefully so that the father's name remain on the trailer, for the rest of the trailer's "perceived" useful life. ... I mean, what should you really care ?? Yet for the son & the father, the inscribed name will remain as an unexpected & unsolicited gesture of great honor, and of course underlying respect to their family. At least a far greater sense of respect (& use of) their family's (neglected) trailer will be inherently achieved for them than as is right now. No ? ~Marc

Be sure to keep it business-like with them. I can help you design the appearance of the trailer, and would as a friend. But the idea, the underlying idea, is that their "cherished" trailer can't possibly go to a better, well intended person. And that it's perhaps a golden opportunity for their family. ~Marc

Kind of along the same line of thought......

My great grandfather had a boat that my grandfather kept. As a kid I always looked at that boat and thought how cool and awesome it was.... It had sharks teeth painted on the front of it. The same image that is on the P40 War Hawk of the WWII Flying Tigers!!

That image is burned in my soul... It could be the very reason why I love WWII aircraft so much, Vaught F4U Corsair, P51 Mustang, P 38 Lighting, Grumman F4F Wild cat and Grumman F6F Hellcat..... just to name a few..

Fast forward a few years till I was old enough to buy my own boat. I painted that Flying Tiger image on my boat.

I sold that boat many moons ago and now I have a Kayak. I painted the Flying TIgers image on it too.

That looks like Awesomeness !!

With the rounded fenders and the "ribs" down the flanks, it appears to be an M100 1/4T. But, it does have the characteristics of an old "Bantam" trailer as well. Should be a data plate forward on the right or left that may still be intact. Nice find. Certainly worth saving if possible. About 1.5 to 2K for a nice one (IE not rotted out) is about the going rate roun' here..
