I’ve been dying to start this thread for the last 5 weeks but I didn’t want to before I actually got to touch it.

5 years ago when I bought my FJ45, aka The Goat 45, @megolfer found it’s litter mate in California.

1967 FJ45 Long Bed resurrection

The original gas tank is missing and they seem pretty hard to find. Does anyine know if a tank from a 1972 fj40 will fit under the seat i have a good one sitting in the shop. Looks like there is some minor damage to the wiring by mice. See the pics below. What is my best coarse of action...

What are the odds that two trucks that rumbled down the assembly line together in 1966…..5 VINs apart, are now sitting in the same shop in Mississippi in 2023?

So about 6 weeks ago @OverLand Cruisers decided it was time to move some inventory out of storage and I plastered it on my Instagram page that he had this LPB for sale.

A few days later I got a PM here on Mud from a fella that goes by @Sweet Water

He asked if I would be interested in putting the same formula I put on the Goat 45 for this one.

I, of course, said yes and he immediately booked a flight down to Arizona to lay eyes on it and make a deal.

That’s when it got real.

While they were chatting at the OLC HQ about the 45…..they also decided it was a good idea to send this here 1967 FJ40 along to Mississippi as well.

So if you think shipping one non running Cruiser across country is bad, try sending two.

Mike immediately ran into brick wall after brick wall on shipping.

I’ve been doing the Land Cruiser thing for 20 years. I’ve owned more Cruisers than most, less than some, but I’ve seen many. This FJ-45 is a survivor. An original. Unmolested. You know all the terms.

I’ll fast forward a bit and then backtrack a bit here …..

A few weeks ago I picked up a really nice 1977 FJ40. I posted a picture of it on IG and out of the blue @cruisermatt told me he wanted it. It was going to be a side project between projects as I waited for parts and such but with two 40 series headed my way my one-man outfit was full and I didn’t need it.

Matt and I were texting about the truck and seeing how we were going to get it to
Florida when he told he he had a buddy driving a roll-back from Southern California to here to pick it up.

When I found out all they were hauling was a motorcycle I put them in touch with @Sweet Water and a deal was made.

They had some mechanical issues with the roll back but they are smart fellas and sorted it out and literally drove straight through from AZ to MS to make delivery today

I work on one truck at a time here. It’s what I do. Not very smart when it comes to down-time, but it works for me.

When I knew this was a done deal I started ordering the things I 💯 knew I would need without laying hands on it.

First things first, I went to the parts pile and loaded up a pallet full of cores and sent them to Georg

Since this truck has a ball and claw front axle I had to source a 68+ housing and some brakes.

I had a parts pig here I cut the axle out of and a FJ62 axle I bought for the brakes.

This is lot of work and why the super cool pre 68 trucks are so labor intensive to make drivable.

I have the axle ready for assembly. I did not have any 3.70 so Georg is sending them with all the brake stuff and 4 speed stuff.

Yesterday I picked up the Dobinsons……

This is going to be a great truck. The only advice I have for @Sweet Water is to not pay attention to how much all this is going to cost. That pain will go away the moment you get to drive it.

Good advice. Wise financial investments these are generally not (well at least not in my case). But the intangibles are priceless!
