One thing that’s bugging John about all of his trucks is that the Dakota fuel gauge is wrong. The presets don’t match anything pre programmed.

I found a way to program it manually. But it either requires you to pull the sending unit or input

Empty….1/4……3/4…..Full

I evenly drained the gas out into 5 gallon jugs and one 3 gallon and got all set to do it.

And I can’t get the gas cap off. Holy s***. I’m so frustrated. It’s a NOS cap that’s new to the truck and I don’t have a damn key. It must have somehow locked.

I’ve got some 911 calls to Jason and Gabe to see about finding a key.

In the mean time I’ve been adding some rubber bumpers and little strips of foam to some rattle points. Everything kinda echos in a 45 with all the metal and such small space.

These are the details that make all the difference in a 40 series, every little rattle and squeak is amplified.

Riding in a rattle free 40 is a different experience from one that hasn't been worked over. I make an ongoing effort to locate and resolve any noise that can be silenced. It pays of exponentially in the long run.

Nice work.

It looks amazing, again awesome job to everyone involved!!! I hope I get to see this truck in person again someday.

Almost makes me want to scrap the patina on my 45 and paint if fresh. Maybe when I am retired and need something to do.

Paint work is no fun. My favorite is still the yellow 40.

I completely understand I am certainly a patina guy myself. That paint job looks great but it makes me twitch when I imagine those tires letting stones fly and hitting the underside of that truck. I would make it hard for me to use it the way I would want to. I am glad you will still drive it and have fun! Glad you built this truck the way you did.

I would more than likely build another one before I repainted the patina one I have. Really, by the time I am old enough call myself retired I would likely be too old to want to spend my time doing body work anyway.

I’ve probably towed this thing through 25 gas stations over the last 3 years. I bet I had one person per trip stop me when it was tan.

Now that it’s blue I literally get surrounded every time I stop. It’s crazy. What a great call changing the color.

I’ve posted this one before but it’s great

@jomelo is going to have all the 🐥 following him around now

So, people that wonder if this truck will ever get “used” need only see the road John lives on.

We have delayed delivery until now due to terrible weather and constant rain. I wanted it clean, clean for delivery.

Then I bashed through a mud hole 2 miles out

It’s home now.

@thatcabledude
Thanks a bunch. Now I can’t go to sleep without the “Smokey and the bandit“ song on repeat in my head.
Focus on the tranquil blue SWB 45….that’s the ticket.
