The cowl was still a bit sticky for coat #2 when I got back from Easter lunch with the family so I decided to dive into the @lcwizard 4Plus swing out.

This truck was one of the late models that had the spare tire mounted underneath like an LPB Long Bed and we both really like the looks of the spare mounted on the back like the other 45 SWBs.

Of course the answer is the 4 Plus swingout.

I’ve put 8 of these things on now and the vertical frame drilling still sucks. This time though I was armed with 3 drills and 3 new bits and some Tap Magic.

First though I had to grind out the drips and bondo in the rear crossmember and repaint.

Who puts bondo on the frame??

When I put the bumper up it was blocking the nasty Wal Mart bolts holding the tailgate I was planning on replacing with Metric Overland stainless. Well, I forgot that I had not ordered my bolts for this project yet so I had to scrounge up enough to do two of the hinges that will be blocked out.

I’ll replace the rest of this junk later. 13mm head to boot 🙄

It was a fun build
Fun truck that I just don't use very often cause I don't want to hurt it which is the unfortunate side of having so much time into a rig.

This thing is going to be 100% legit when that 255/85-16 is hanging off it.

Oh, before I started on the swingout I worked rust converter into all the holes in the frame and behind the radiator crossmember.

By the time the rear was done I was able to get the second heavy coat of Lizard Skin applied to everything

Finally I added a nice coat of gloss to the frame. I’ll need to grind it back off in places for modifications but wanted to lay it on heavy before I have pretty new axles and springs under there

24 hours later. Lots accomplished.

I didn’t realize that early 45 was a fixed top made into a removable top. Too bad the build is on pirate not mud.

What’s happening with the under bed tire rack?

Looking great Nolen! One step at a time killing it 💪

Once the Canadians bought Pirate the writing was on the wall. I lost so much documentation on that built! Plus several others I have done.
I tried to salvage what I could and get it posted here...
I am done with the hijack 😀. It's all in support of this awesome build Jim!

@RustyNailJustin What's the circle above the kick vent between the hood and firewall?

Long story, back when we were running the Baja Lowrance in desert racing (which I ran in my desert car). I was going to put that antenna for that GPS there. Idea being I could use that GPS in the desert racer and in the 45. But technology moves on, we are all switching to Lead Nav and I have been on Carto Trax and Avenza for years on an iPad. Would still work for a good radio antenna location.

did you wire wheel all the factory tar off? I’ve got my original tank off my 73 that I’m cleaning up and I’m debating on trying to clean up the bottom. Of course it might be what allows the tank to hold gas still.

This one is in good shape, besides the fact that it is 3 colors. No tar on it.
I just like this stuff

Pretty much takes out the tin can resonance and really cuts the heat.

@wngrog, do you know hard lizard skin is to remove? I would like to add something like this to my build but I am concerned about how difficult it could be to make repairs or modifications down the road. Thoughts?

Logistics day.

Got a fuel pump ordered from Mosley Motors.

Spent some time on the phone with MEO taking hydro boost brakes.

Made a pile for the paint shop.

Took the Warthog to the paint shop.

Picked up stuff from the paint shop.

Ordered steering parts from @cruiseroutfit

Had the pallet of seats picked up for @Cruiser Corps

Busy but it was good to take a break from the work part of it

Then I got home and the powder shop called and said some chairs I had done were ready

I fired up my old 100 (now my daughters) and picked up chairs along with this little bit of solid GOLD from @orangefj45 at Valley Hybrids

I got about halfway through the first hole for mine and called a cousin and borrowed this, it's the only way to fly.

I actually searched for that and realized I was just being a pussy so I spit on my hands and grabbed a fresh holt

Afterwards, I was talking with my cousin and he said anybody that thinks Japanese vehicle are made out of tin cans has never tried drilling through a Land Cruiser frame.

Looking great! The power of persistence! That bed looks incredible. Quality work and skills.
