It took a while, but after a few threatening phone calls explaining that I have no problem driving across a few states to shoot him, he refunded half my money back.
slcfj62,
I wish it was that easy. I believe they are completely different engines. I really want to do this engine in my 80 series and have been trying to figure out the logistics of this as well. An email to Astr would be a great start because I think he has both motors in his shop to try that out. If I recall though they are completely different and even it they did, the starter on that motor faces toward the rear of the vehicle and is really the major stumbling block with that conversion. I would love to have that motor in my 80 if someone would come up with a solution to the tranny issue because it has a lot more hp than the 4BD1T.
As it stands, I am looking at another 4BD1T conversion with a chevy 4L80E adapted to a split case for my 80. The 4L80E you can get an electronic controller for and change the shift points to match the diesel. The A440 you would have to have a diesel valve body installed or send yours to a shop that can convert it's shift pattern to match the diesel's lower rpm needs.
If you come up with a solution to this, let me know. I would rather keep as many of my parts Toyota as I can.
Thanks,
Don
I bought a generic H4 upgrade harness off ebay for $15 and when I got it all wired in, my high beam indicator light didn't work so then I went searching here on mud and found your schematic and then rewired my harness with the three relay system you use. I hope you don't mind that I copied it?
Thanks,
Don
