Hi Guys

I'm Amer, living in Qatar and the proud owner of a 1983 FJ45.

I have limited auto experience; so please excuse my basic / amateur questions.

Although the exterior paint looks good, there are issues with the suspension & steering. I've sourced parts from Al Aswar, Sharjah; but would like to find a source closer to home. Also looking for a "good" mechanic. I plan to do most of the work myself; but think a "pro" should do the bigger stuff; ie engine / transmission gaskets.

Thanks for the invite.
I have a 2012 LC200 4.6L GXR+, slightly modded.

Desert Nomad,
Your 200 looks brilliant among the plastic bumper, hazy headlight, white 200 series' that we normally see.
Everytime I spot the car in Sharjah my mind starts to think of the modifications that I would love to do to my Mother's 200.
Brilliant!

Nah! Easy decision... the FJ40. And MashaAllah indeed!

Max,
Half English half American and have lived in the UAE since the beginning of 2007. Currently working on having my 1980 fj45 pickup restored to her former glory. Below is a picture of her when a friend in Saudi first took her for a test drive.

And below you can find a pic of my 1979 fj40 that I sold to a friend last year and later regretted selling.

No joke you have the best looking double can bushannab I have ever seen! Mashalla. And the troopy is beautiful too. I saw a pop top camper troopy yesterday on Instagram and instantly went into depression that I don't have it.

Just a question but do you have nicknames for different model land cruisers in Saudi? In the UAE the 70 series pickup is bu shannab, and the 100series is station..

In Yemen what they call the rb3 in Saudi is called haba or haba wa rb3 depending on the wheel base. 70 series is shaas, fj60 is abo dabba (they mainly came with a jerry can holder), the 80 is Laila alawi (big ass), the 100 series is Monica (came out during the White House scandal).. They also name other cars : the big boxy old merc s500 is Viagra etc. but the main cars that they name are toyotas because they are so common.

Mcladin.....you have an amazing driveway. Do you not feel guilty with all those 40's? :DSpecial mention to you Mercedes also.
Lexy is pretty rare....outside Saudi at least. Is there much difference with the 5 speed?

Yes. I feel guilty for having the Merc. A nice 45 troopy and 45 pick up are needed in its place :D

As for the LX not much difference. To my knowledge export for the dash is a 83 84 model with the digital clock and all that nasty nonsense. I prefer the dash without the space age design.

You looking for a truck ?

: ) yah they have some funny names for the cars.

The 40 I've just come to find out it's called a 3isha عيشه and the 60 is called a saloon. But the rest sounds about right. I think it's a regional thing.

Yah @boozwes 45 and 79 and 80 series are sweet. He's the guy who go me into this bloody hobby :) he sold me his 40 and I've been a sucker since. I got my 80 after I saw his and the rest is history as they say.

@ boozewz - love the pic's; trooper rules. By the way, what tires / rims do you have on your trooper? I'm looking for replacement tires / rims. PO owner has installed 15 in splits with the desert maxi tires. Absolutely hate these tires and I want to switch them but can't seem to find a narrow tire in Qatar. Even 4wd Hilux; which is factory fitted with 15 in has wider tires.

Did you installed wheel spacers? what size / thickness?

Sounds to me like you owe him one. =)

Owe him ? I paid for it with my life. He screwed my life over : ) didn't care much for cars before this rabbit hole. Now all I think about is 40 this and 80 that. It's driving me mad. Madness I tell you. : )

Cheers Max..Saw that Pop up. Looks awesome, but I can't stomach doing that to this baby. Want it to be nice and clean and as original as possible.

As for the names, ya they have some cool and sometimes funny ones. The Shaas is the Shaas, but usually referring to the 70 series. All the 40 series' are Abu Shanabs. i.e. the 40 is a Rub3 Abu Shanab and also 3isha. 45 is a Shaas Abu Shanab. The 45 Troopy, apparently is the Sirwal Afghani:( Was hoping they'd have a better name for that!. Then there's the 43 which only came in a soft top here, so it got the Abu Shira3 (as in a sail). 60's are Saloon (صالون).

Thanks! Running 255/85/16 BFG KM2s. Thats a 33X10.5X16 tire. Aka pizza cutters. The rims are the original OEM split steelies. No spacers. The fit is just perfect. And the tire is my favorite. Very versatile and has good road manners.

Yup… @Mcladin buys a car a year roughly. He's fecked. He said he never liked the 60s. Now that his brother has one, just watch this space….:steer:

Hahaha. No I don't. I haven't bought one this year ; )

Was eyeing his 60 up earlier on insta. Just love that grill those round lights and that line that goes down the side of the body. But I don't like the GCC spec look. too south of the border for my liking.

In white could work : )

But what would work is a transplant of a 60 front end onto the 80. Now that would be a dream.

I'll look for that picture
