Man ya'll are quick to circle.

I was entirely out of line, having not read the circumstances surrounding until AFTER the carrion caught my eye.....

I figured the towel was being thrown of frustration, which I completely understand.

Like I say, this is more than restoring a vehicke, it's more like a marriage, 'cause some days you wake up with a chit eatin' grin, others you want to pack up and leave, and takes an undying devotion, like no other.

Hate to hear of anyone's hard times and wish I could offer more than this, but...

In my opinion based on experience, a truly rust free body shell, ready for paint, is worth a minimum of $10k.

Unfortunately, that valuation may only be appreciated by a few.

The highest return is going to be parting, but I'd get there are thrice as many lurkers on these pages as there are vocal participants and it may be faster to itemize here and out a lump sum on the project, with a definitive tineframe before parting it out.

Create a buzz for if/when it parts and response to the project lump sum could serve as a barometer to parting for highest return.

I’m interested in a number for pig and all her parts.

Feel free to shoot me a PM if you’re not ready to advertise.

Thanks.

oh no harm meant, I would have had the same mindset had I read the post earlier.

I've contemplated selling mine a few times, so I know the feeling.

I'm way too deep....

On the '76, alone, if I were to price at half "invested", folks would be trying to have me committed.....and haven't even touched the body yet. :)

Funny (or sad, depending on perspective) thing is, if this body were literally ready for primer and paint, I'd be tempted to further the depths of the insanity, just to git 'er dun.

Guppie,
I am sorry to hear about the job. It truly sucks when someone else says your time is up.
Try not to make a knee-jerk reaction though. These things are traumatic and stressful. If you truly do not know what you even have, maybe just take a little time to inventory your Pig items.
The scary thing about being out of work is you have all that time with yourself. As you get over the shock of the "now" you may discover you really want to get back into the Pig build.
Then again, you may not.
Just don't make any sudden decisions until after the shock has worn off.
Thinking you should sell is just another phase of Pig stewardship...
Good luck!

We are getting strippers?

Hopefully not that Christa Lancy chick, I hear she is not very hot...

just don't ever go to south lake tahoe and get a stripper named Magenta, I still wake up in the middle of the night covered in sweat and it was 15 years ago.

damn you magenta, damn you.

damn you magenta, damn you.

You, sir, owe me an iPhone screen protector.

Bet it's been ten years since I even thought of, twenty since occurred, but I spewed coffee when reading that......and the memory of the fake fog rolling out, backlit by the strobes and other stage effects, with the bass pumping, the MC announcing

"Let's all give it up for Apache!!"

Forced similar sentiments.

Mind you, we're in OK, so no need to describe Apache, but alluring, beguiling, with an innate ability to suck the money right from the crowds wallet were all traits that one had to experience.

Buddy at the time, without a place of his own, inevitably "gave it up" for her, or to her, and forever left a visual reminder of the escapade, that cost me a livings room worth of carpet.

It took me about ten minutes to figure out what had happened that night, coming downstairs and seeing two blood stained trails about 12" apart, for ten feet across the living room floor, verified when he showed later that day with freshly scabbing knees.

Damn you, too, Apache.

Don't quote. I'll delete shortly, since WAY OT.

Bwwaaaahaaaaahaaaaaha!

Maybe these pigs should all get stripper names......alluring, beguiling, with the ability to suck the money out of a guy's wallet.

Sounds like @1973Guppie has a pig named Magenta, and @Delancy has a rig named Apache :beer::rolleyes:

I hope she/he pronounced it
A-pa-shay.

Guppie, Sorry to hear about your troubles. I hope they'll be over soon. Good luck and thanks for all the good build threads you've done!
Best,
Ty

Good luck Guppie, if you have been around mid long enough to be bit by the bug it's too late you already have it.

There was something that originally atracted you to land cruisers and this motley crew that while might fade it doesn't ever really go away. I had the same feelings when I sold my 55, I was going through a rough spot, not so much financially as emotionally with a divorce and I thought the same thing. I had enough of old land cruisers. Fire sold my 55.... Twice.

And I stayed away from land cruisers for a while oh about 8 months or so and then the same things that originally drew me to them found me again and at that point I totally regretted selling the old pig.

I don't know what shape your 55 is in but even if it's old and beatup, 1f with 3 speed, I would keep it around just to putter around in. Load the family up and run down to ice cream in the old pig. Times when things look the hardest that the small things can really make you smile.

Sorry for the tough times, it will all work out!

thx, I am going to study for my board exams and get my license and then hopefully I will find something, trying to find a position as an ultrasound tech in a place that is willing to be patient with me and offer some training.

I agree. Keep your eye on your goals (providing for your family), but try not to make rash decisions that may result in regret.
After you get out of panic mode you will realize you still need to feed your soul...

And maybe give your Pig a stripper name for now!

I think if my Pig were a stripper she would be named Glitter.
Or maybe Sandy, based on the amount of New Mexico sand that I cleaned out of her...

Do we need to start a new Sticky to log everyone's Pig Stripper Names?

thx for the support guys, the pig right now is just a shell so I can't even drive it, first thing will be to get rid of the fj40 I am restoring, had always planned to sell it anyhow so no biggie, then I may reopen my shop and work on cruisers again, god gave me that skill and it has always served me well and at least allowed some additional income even though it is not always consistent and stable.

I thank god for my great family and health. I have the best, most supportive wife and great kids. The plus is I get to spend more time with my son and daughter now. I do appreciate all the kind words, it helps. Sometimes it is frustrating when you actually do your very best at a job and it is just not enough. Seems that business are so rash these days. Everyone wants experience but no one is wiling to train and invest in someone. I am the kind of person that will never leave if someone invests in me. But in this world it seems profit is everything and we are judged by the guys at the top business quarter by quarter.

Nice to hear you are still on your 55 project. It is a better choice to sell th 40 to make money and keep the 55 that has less dollar value. So you still have a project and I know how therapeuthic it can be in troubles time.
I liked to hear you talking that way of your wife and kids. This is the real matata (kenyan word I cannot translate)
Hope you will soon find a new job.and if it takes few time use it to progress on the 55, sure there are things that she needs with low cost.
Friendly Pascal

I am trying to decide whether to part this piggy out or sell it as a whole project? I have some very rare parts for it. All the OEM weatherstripping, new mirrors, etc. I am almost thinking I might make more just putting these pieces all on ebay and then whatever is left over I can sell off? what do people think? I heard from someone on here that a pair of OEM new mirrors sold for $1200 on ebay recently? is that true?
