Just last night - going thru my hoard of parts that have been sitting too long. Found those o-rings and had totally forgotten what they were for until Beno's post. They looked like the air seal rings for an ARB locker but I didn't remember buying any. I've gotten better at labeling parts packages that are not totally obvious.
Do you need them Eric? I don’t have them as Onur pointed out... and the one still in the dial looks a tad dry.

I believe I do need them but it's been so long. Getting ready to put them together. Let me look tonight and I'll shoot you a PM.
No worries. Found an o-ring in the assortment bin at Ace Hardware which fit well. Can’t beat $1.19 a piece.

They will look rusty in short order. I would paint. Even if it's just a quick spray bomb job, it will be far better than nothing. And given the rusty environment, I'd asctually do a good job painting-good prep, 2-3 coats. You can do it all in a few hours.

A few layers of a hammered dark chrome? Idk what color it is but it’s what it is and it works.

That’s good work F. Did the dials still have the detenti spring and check ball?
Ayup. Got them in a plastic Italian ice cup. Getting ready to put it all back together.

That paint looks cool. And I think hammered finish paints have high solids content so also a bonus. Downside - I think you'll be scraping paint off the dowels. Not a big deal tho.

Okay... cruiser gods are having a good laugh at me. I keep putting it in and then turning it and trying again but this little lip on the pawn (whatever the hell it is) just don’t want slip in nice.
Anyone got a tip?

Got it. Just takes a heavier hand. ;) Me and my gentle girl hands just gotta get bossier.

as long as the dial is in the Free position.
Like I text'd back... great minds. It dropped down together but I had to pull it apart because the arrows weren't lining up right. Your comment and the same from the youtube video came to mind "its gotta be in the Free position." And yes, it doesn't really need a heavy hand at all, that was just me trying to be funny.

Call me lazy, I left it to the old worm out stock finish.

Come on now.... it looks pretty good! And no shimmy nor a need to scrape the dowels.

Rain let up and just as I got setup to press the new races in w/ the old ones I’d cut the sun came out so I took it as a sign I was doing something right!

New studs installed. Sometimes I follow the rules and sometimes I only half follow the rules.

I love that paint choice!
