My son is still fighting low grade temps from the flu. He’s on the couch feeling not himself. I’m in at this point, they’re will be no running out and futzing. Ah the dilemma of parenthood and hobby. Wah.

Ok while going to gather eggs I snagged a moment. I can pull the rotor and hub outward after loosening the nut. As well as I can push it inward too. But when I have it outward there’s far less thread avail to grab on the spindle. HOW much should be visible before hand tightening the first nut?

Appears too from skimming through the fsm again, I may have over stuffed the inner hub w/ grease too. I imagine that’s hanging up the rotation as well. I’ll pull it and take some grease out as soon as I can, tmrw or Thurs AM and go from there.

On reflection, I think you are right and your extra resistance is coming from your dust seal. It and the place it rides on the back of the hub, need to be greased to slip together cleanly. I have had the lip of that dust seal roll over and cause just the stiff turning you describe. But also a new dust seal can just be tight, especially if there is extra thickness on the hub from say hammertone paint.
The inner hub grease is a lot. FSM says to fill to the level of the races inside.
One other question-why is your birf grease not black? I've never seen moly grease that was that color.

Moly grease comes in many colors
red black gold etc
and That's what I'm thinking..that rear dust seal having too much grip on the back of the hub..needs more assembly lube or grease....

I wonder how that's possible because the chemical itself MoS2 is black. I saw some Red Line grease that said "red moly" but had no idea what that was. I certainly have tracked enough black moly into the house to be pretty familiar with it's ability to ruin almost any floor covering your have!
I'm currently packing mine (for right or wrong) with RedLine CV-2 and it's pinkish.

Dude, sweets, lovely helpers from afar. I really am not stupid enough to spray the mating surface of the hub. And when it comes to the grease.... I used Napa Wheel Bearing and Chassis Grease, the stuff meets wheel bearing spec with disk brakes and also chassis specs and that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Ya’ll oughta know by now I’m not a blind lemming. I talk to lots of folks and then make my choices.

Hot weather my ass. It’s barely pushing 56 here. It’s still scarf and hat weather for this NE girl. Haven’t touched the truck yet, maybe soon while kid naps...>.>

Like Drew said, appears I’m getting a little roll action occurring on either side of the hub. The rubber lip is bent inward. I’ve tried giving it more lube and a firm pull out but it keeps happening again. I’ll swap out for the other dust shield and cross my fingers it doesn’t happen again.
Nothing obvious on inspection to be causing it on the rear OD of the hub.

Second dust shield went on no sweat and the hub slid on as it should. Battery died on the phone so no picture for now. I pulled it off once and I could see right away it wasn't rolling in at all. I'll call Georg for a new one for the driver side... not gonna chance that bunk one. I probably forced it and then it sat over night and the rubber has no chance now unless I stuff something between it to force out the lip over the next week or so till I get number two done. Gave a pull on one stud with the fish scale and it goes right to about 9lbs.
