I have my great grandfathers too but it’s on the deck and a fair amount smaller. I also picked up a cool old heavy service cart. I’ve yet to decide what to do w/ it. I was going to turn it into a coal forge but it’s too nice. I’ll be doing some rearranging my garage soon.I've got a vice just like that one, sure does come in handy. You'll get a lot of use out of it I'm sure.
Well there goes that, supposedly the guy flaked and sold it. People are such bs.I've got a vice just like that one, sure does come in handy. You'll get a lot of use out of it I'm sure.

Thanks. Just wish that being a fellow cruiser owner he would have been more standup w/ his words. Oh well. Keeping my eyes open. I like used, local and kept out of a landfill... even if not a huge deal.Go easy. That looks like a Harbor Freight 5 inch vise. Only $56 brand new. So $16 savings is not worth the mental effort.
Maybe he really needed cash in the moment. It's like Craigslist, it isn't yours until you're driving away with the goods.
coal forge eh? next thing we know, felicity's forging engine parts cuz she can't buy them any moreI have my great grandfathers too but it’s on the deck and a fair amount smaller. I now have two junk cam shafts on my property... the 2F from Drew and another from a 50 year old Chevy C30. But I’ll start w/ coil springs....coal forge eh? next thing we know, felicity's forging engine parts cuz she can't buy them any more![]()
Can we really call an 80 a land cruiser? I mean it’s closer to a Tahoe really.Thanks. Just wish that being a fellow cruiser owner he would have been more standup w/ his words. Oh well. Keeping my eyes open. I like used, local and kept out of a landfill... even if not a huge deal.
Repurposed cruiser parts threadI now have two junk cam shafts on my property... the 2F from Drew and another from a 50 year old Chevy C30. But I’ll start w/ coil springs....
Thanks Chad! Great to hear from you esp since you totally get it!Enjoyed catching up on your thread @NeverGiveUpYota, I have been driving mine almost every day I'm home from work now that it is smog legal. I feel you on the oil leak, mine is leaking from either the front of the oil pan or the timing cover. So frustrating with a brand new engine! Nice work though! Every time I catch up on your thread again, I get encouraged to dive back into mine.
As noted, that's a HF vise. Not bad, but if you're a relic hunter, find an American-made vintage vise; They show once 'n a while at garage sales or flea-markets. You'll be amazed at the how sloppy those HF vises are if you find an old American one. GL.

Yes, but shush!!! Let's not let them get gentrified like the 60's yet.Spike is right. Old American vice. Lots out there, the best are old Wiltons. But there are many others. Great candidates for restoration and parts available.
@cps432 - really? Been to a Land Cruiser event in the last 20 years? Been on any trails? 80s are probably THE BEST Land Cruiser in an all around way. I love my traditional trucks, but nothing else serves every niche like an 80 series. 80s have their minor weak spots, but compared to every other previous and later Land Cruiser, they are better, more durable, more capable, easier to work on, longer lasting, and will likely go on for decades. And my favorite LC that I own is an FJ62. But if I had to pick only one, it would be the 80 going forward. It does almost everything well, including driving to work every day.
