Nope. They want it recycled like R12
I can't think of anything to say that won't attract the Black Hand of Death, so I will just say, think of the things that would attract the Black Hand of Death and that is what I'd probably say and then some.

Although, in case you are looking for a toe with nail polish..

Was able to get some small cans of R134a at the local 'Zone, but they keep it behind the counter now like they used to keep the magazines with the black plastic wrappers at the liquor store... you have to ask someone for help like a skeevy environmental perv to get your fix.

Literal conversation 20 minutes ago:

"Hey, you do this yourself?"
"Yep."
"Don't put too much in, you can really damage your stuff."
"Yeah, I have a gauge..."
"Ok good. You save a lot of money on labor doing it yourself."

In this and many other things, friend.

"Year, make, and model?"

“2 or 4 wheel drive?”

"Year, make, and model?"
How many ways this can go:
2002 BMW "Bangle Butt" 740i with a drinking problem
1974 Mercedes-Benz 450SL - the Hollywood Honda, classy but dayum
2020 Tesla Model S - all silicon(e), fast and fun and fake as fawk
1983 FJ60 - mighty slow but gets you there every time :)

The problem is I’m never looking for a part for my 60 because I can guarantee they don’t have it in stock. “Year, make, and model” is a moot question asked by a (typically) parts changer who can’t wrap his head around problem solving.

“I need a 5/8” heater hose that’s pre-bent at around 120 degrees, got anything like that in the back?” I get a blank stare in return and usually just ask if I can go look myself.

Agree, and will typically only visit the chain stores if I need something general, like fluids. The local 'Zone lets me wander around the back usually, but O'Reilly is really strict about it and their selection has sucked (more) lately.

O'Reilly is actually great here. I have full access to the back and they typically (shockingly) have what I need or can get it in a couple hours.
The manager let me back there and while I was looking I was reorganizing the parts wall, that won me some cred.

I typically go to a NAPA in Van Nuys; They supply most of the aftermarket mechanics in the area, so are a bit busy, but they know what they're doing. Not the cheapest, but they have or can quickly get most things. Also, they're the only place that stocks Zerex Original Green Coolant .

I gave up on Vatozone, even with the giant-eyelash cuties who have to rest their unboxed rack and pinions on the counter between customers. 😁

The regional Napa distribution center is about 15 minutes from my house so I usually go there. Better odds of getting what I need. If I'm lucky or play my cards right I can sometimes get the assistant manager to help me - she's good at seeing beyond the "year, make model?" mentality.

Napa is actually the "best" around and one can usually get 20% off if you order online for ship to home. Nabbed a reman Saginaw steering box from there when I needed it a few years ago. An impressively good build.

Closest Napa to me is near Mark in Burbank, but worth the trip if I need something specific. They are great too, stood behind a dead battery that came in the 40, even though I didn’t buy it. Otherwise it’s slim pickin’s up the hill here.. and the ‘Zone gals are a bit rougher in Tujunga… :(

Holcomb Valley through trip today, 3N14 all the way with some friends on their first offroad adventure. Great afternoon on the trail and didn’t even need to lock the hubs.

Happy 4th Mudders!
