I think this is what they call, "balls deep". Not sure if doing TREs, cooling system, and desmog all at the same time was the smartest thing. At least the coolant/desmog had some related stuff. TREs could've waited. Oh well... I've seen much bigger things done on these cruisers. But for me this is getting out of my comfort zone some.

Rust city! @Racer65 and I were talking about the hose connector on the lower right - it is NLA. As you can see it is pretty rusted. What are people doing for a replacement of this piece? Seems like a pretty simple pipe with a threaded stub welded to it.

Hopefully this will work as a replacement:

On my rusty one, the OD on the big pipe is ~46mm and the OD on the small pipe is ~17mm. The part above is designed for the '75+ but sure seems like could work - just need to confirm the dimensions.

Someone has finally confused the bezel police enough to avoid a citation....

Great work, having fun following the progress! It'll be worth it when you're done.

Cheers

Yes that is way more out of the comfort zone!

Thanks for the support all!

Front end just doesn't look the same...

I've been putting off going as far as you but it looks like the hardest part is over for you.
I'm afraid I'm going to break the bolts attaching to lower thermostat housing to the block and be in a big mess.
I don't know if the hardest part is over for me... Ask me after this weekend... :|

have your torch and mig ready to go if it does.... if you know the tricks, a broken bolt is both anti-climatic and kind of ego boosting (when you get it off easily by welding a nut to the broken bolt and back it out after a moment for heat soak).

It's usually the bolts that attach the upper housing to the lower housing that breaks. That's why it's better to just take the whole thing out and replace with new...while you still can.

This ^^ is how I removed a broken water pump bolt that came with 44 - it works.

Yup this happened to me I'll drill out and repair when I get a chance and throw it into my pile o' old Landcruiser parts. Fortunately for me I got all new stuff!

Bingo. It's a match! 46mm OD on the big pipe and 17mm OD on the smaller one.

According to CruiserDan I got the last lower housing in the U.S. inventory. Also, I think he said there were only 4 or 6 upper housings left. Question is are there more out there that Toyota dealers will receive?

According to my own search, Power Toyota in Tempe Arizona still has one upper housing (without oil cooler) and one lower housing left. Priority Motors Hampton Inc in Hampton Virginia has one lower housing.

Toyota also has one upper housing with oil cooler connection left in its Oklahoma warehouse.

If anyone needs these parts, better grab it now!
