After comparing the new blue hub to my modified orange hub (supercharger hub), the blue hub doesn’t have nearly the amount of engagement, feels very much like a stock blue hub clutch.

I just picked up a few bottle of CST from a local hobby shop. I got a bottle of 15k, 20k and 60k. I am going to mix equal parts 15k and 60k to make 30k.

I will likely end up do hood vents, but going to start with getting this hub modified.

Thanks for this info, very helpful. I might try the 15cst and see what happens.

Time for the inevitable....

Intercoolers.

:grinpimp:

well that's inevitable but is that gonna cool down radiator water temps? I'm thinking not :hmm:

Not directly. It will cool down the entire turbo system which will then decrease overall under hood temps.

Or you can just do like me and keep the hood off!!

or that!

I like your intercooler though

Was fun finagling the fan out without removing the shroud when you have dual batteries and a York to contend with.

Drained old yellow fluid and replaced with a 50/50 mix of 15k and 60k...should be about 30k. I can definitely feel more engagement when turning by hand, now to get it back in the cruiser and test it out.

@Onur Reminds me of the "Free Speed" tech article from one of my favorite old mags

Got the fan clutch back in the LX and took her for a good hour long shake down run. Temps are definitely improved. On the highway doing 70-75 she was running at 196-197. In stop and go traffic doing 30-35 she was running at 198-199, and at stop lights temps would creep up to 203-205. The last major test was pulling up a 5 mile 10% grade, this time temps were 203-205 the whole way up, much better than the 212 I saw yesterday. Coasting back down the mountain the temps dropped back down to 190 and then never got above 196 cruising back home. I did about 35-40 miles or so, and ambient temp was about 86 degrees.

I feel better about these numbers, but there is still room for improvement, so I plan to vent the hood after I figure out what vents to go with.

Before you cut holes in your hood you can add spacers between your hood and hinge flange mount to make the hood sit up about an inch in the back. Will somewhat simulate a hood vent to tell you if it will make a difference.

Would you mind adding a few more pics? Have you noticed much of a difference in temps with this?

mom a side note. This is a discontinued item from Poison Spyder. I spent a week locating actual stock.

Summit Racing had a few in their TX warehouse. They could be gone by now, that was 3 weeks ago.

I have similar cooling issues. I just bought a Photoman reduction fan pulley but have not had a chance to install yet. Maybe tomorrow or Sunday.
I didn’t know Photoman had a smaller fan pulley. Do you have a link to a thread about it? I did a quick search but only found all the alternator threads.

I found various posts with minimal detail. Mainly on Joey's cooling problem thread.

I'm at my absolute wits end- truck still overheating despite best efforts

I messaged Photoman directly and ordered it.

His pulley is a 15% reduction to make it spin faster.

It def spins faster at idle. Much more with the smaller pulley and mod blue clutch. Test drive time on the freeway to see if it cools it down even more.

I also ordered a 6mm hood spacer kit on amzn. Will try that when it comes in tomorrow. I could have ghetto rigged some washers. For $12 thats the price for convience. way over priced for spacers but I'm lazy and rather not go to homedepot and find something.

I have that on my SC truck and its worked wonders. My turbo truck isn't seeing any cooling/overheating issues so I'm not concerned about changing it.

95 intake temp. 212 coolant temp. 80mph. Flat terrain with the AC on. I think it's about 90 degrees outside today.

100 intake, 217-219 coolant, 85. Slighly incline with ac on

109 intake, 190 coolant, idling after hard turbo push eith ac off.

114 intake, 186 coolant, hood open and idling for 5 minutes with ac off

Are those numbers from the ScanGauge? Your last number set is interesting. Like its a fan clutch issue.

At 80mph on flat here in S. Oregon, 99º outside, I am seeing 197º max. That was yesterday. Today its only 88º and I'm only seeing 192º at frwy speed.
