Never say never:

So a few pages back during the special engine build I said the exorbitant piston and rod choice was ok because it was my last build

Unfortunately I’ve had a secret fantasy of owning an early version in original stock condition with the side mount blinkers, hence constantly on the prowl.

Well I spotted this 1970 2 weeks ago on the C-list. No side mount blinkers but extremely nice with all original components. New cloth seats bad radio install dirty engine bay.

I was viewing the pics and my wife busted my pig porn session by saying, to her chagrin, “that’s cute”. Therefore I just drove a new member of the family 1035 miles from Portland Or. to Ojai Ca. It drove like it desperately needed to get out of Oregon (flawlessly).

All glass rubber in very good condition even the wind wing, door panel vinyl in excellent condition, seat upholstery perfect [new obviously] (were cloth from factory an option at any time) very nice paint condition (factory colors)
Ran and drove excellent. Doors are all straight and swing great(several stress cracks here and there). Engine bay: every thing original is there just covering grime.

Unfortunately orange kudzu is trying to take her to the promised land where virgin studs are waiting in line. Nothing at the roof that I can tell but floorboards, rockers and the two rear body mount locations are a bit rough. All I can do for the moment is pump her full of penicillin where needed. Hopefully that and dry Ojai weather will extend her life. But I will be keeping an eye out for any of Bob's famous floorboards and rockers that may still be available some where (hint hint nudge nudge)

Good lord man, that thing is beautiful! Those floors look like they can be saved.

I feel very luck to have found such a straight driver. The orange kudzu will be a challenge down the road. For now take care of the minor stuff.

Low beam didn’t work: contact in the column switch needed adjusting
Horn no sound: brass contact wheel clogged with dead grease and not properly aligned to contact disk
Reverse lights no go: switch plunger stuck
Rear window intermittent: adjusted jam switch and plastic strike
E-brake no stop: adjust (du)
Lubed tree shift linkage

All above corrected

Fresh air/recycled air cable broken not urgent
Flashers not flashing

Next fix,
Topping off fuel causes gas to flow from top of tank onto tail pipe: hopefully sending unit gasket.

Thanks for everyone’s appreciation

For me, that was caused by evap lines missing from vents on top corners of gas tank.

Thanks for the tip. How does one correct it.

Other interesting photos.

Hard to say what energy was used reconfigure this tire crank

Am I correct in the fact that the dealers were responsible for installing hub release hubs?

Have never seen these before

Also turns out that the ignition key does the doors and the tailgate

You can trace the evap vent lines back to the tank. Worst case, you have to drop the tank.

My '74 came with Aisins for the coarse spline birf.

Then in '76 when they went disc front brake came the long-body ASCOs.

I thought Pigs came from the factory with selectable lock-outs, while the 40s shipped w/ drive flanges on the front.

However, someone could have decided to dump the factory lock-outs with Selectros. I think Sears even got a private label version of the Selectro. They are easy to grip and turn. They also explode well!

I see 3-point belts in the back - cool.
Could you get me some pics of the PO mounted the retractor mechanism?
I think about adding 3-point belts to the rear...

I’ll get you pics tomorrow
