I got a bit of time to work on the 60, so.....

Pulled the oil pan, and I will do the BEBs tomorrow morning.

I also modified the oil pan to include an oil return for the turbo, and the catch can.

I'll use two separate returns, to avoid having any Tee fitting in either line, and it should be well above the oil level.

Like I said, tomorrow I will replace the BEBs. Will see if I get some of my parts back from getting cleaned in a hot dip tank, if I do I am hoping to mate the engine and transmission (got the terrain tamer clutch kit) and set the whole assembly into the frame.

Your recent order leaves tomorrow and will show up on Saturday. :)

Sweet!

That just about makes me want to call in sick so I can get ripping on getting those goodies onto the engine immediately!

Dan

So.... Trudging along today. ;)

Replaced the BEBs. Interestingly, these bearing shells had excellent tolerances 0.045mm or so, and consistent across the three I checked.

But I figured "while I was in there"....

Glad I did, because the upper shells (on the left in the pic) all showed wear.

Cheap insurance.

But the crank looked great. Not bad for an uber cheap mine engine. :)

Other than that I'm just powder coating bits related to, the bellhousing and T-case halves.

Pics to come...

Dan

So, the Australian red dirt on the bellhousing and T-case were more than I could handle. Even having the parts hot tanked (not just put in a wash cabinet) didn't clean them well enough.

So I relented and will powder coat the parts in Machine Grey instead.

Looking good! Multiple 1hz's & turbos! Awesome! My vote is to build the shop before the house :)

Well, it would be super handy right now.... but I did just buy logs for the house, so time is starting to tick...

Where did you get that steam cleaner? Did you rent it?

It's a McCullough MC-1275 I believe. You can get that locally pretty easily. It takes a long time for a lot of stuff, but it does a great job of cleaning.

Let me know if you need a hand with anything up there, I would love to come check out your mountain :) besides the 40 hasn't seen dirt yet!

For the sake of information, upper big end bearings will always show more wear than lowers. The load from cylinder combustion is transferred to the crank via the upper bearing shell, the lower shell's only load is when that crankpin pulls that rod/piston assembly down from when another cylinder fires. Your upper shells look good which is great sign for your engine's history. The top left shell looks to have something going on but it's hard to tell from the photo, and the 3rd right shell has a stain of some sort?
Anyways, you're running a great build thread so please keep it coming :)

Bump for an update:cheers:

Been busy thinning my forest and buying a big old track loader.

Hopefully in November I can get back to the 60....
