On another note, since it's Halloween, all you need is a hockey goalie mask to go with your chainsaws and chaps.

Looks good Dan!
I should probably do my research before asking this, but I know you probably have the answer... Is the OEM glow screen (or glow plugs) sufficient enough to get a diesel going in the extreme cold (0 degrees Fahrenheit and below) or is the webasto pretty mandatory? Reason I ask is I am heading up to Colorado this winter to do some skiing for pretty much half of December and January. I have a plug in heater but I doubt that will help much while away from home.
Not trying to clog your thread, figured it will be some good tech since you are installing one!

With your 12HT?
Don't sweat it. The glow screen is more than enough.
Our 12HT has the glow system in place, and it works, but it causes issues with our alternator--so it's easier to just not use it. Last winter at -20 or so I was able to start the 60 right up, while my friend's TDI VW wasn't able to start (and he plenty of battery--and cranked forever).
The webasto for me is for two reasons:
If you can plug yours in, do so though. It sure makes everything happier. Our 12HT doesn't even have a block heater in it though, and I don't sweat it.
- Comfort. It's kind of like remote start, but without having to idle the engine. Heats the cabin and the engine, so that when I go outside the truck is warm, and I don't need to do any window scraping.
- Ease of starting when its UBER cold. When I go to work I leave the truck in a parking lot for days on end, and I typically find myself getting back to it when it's really late and cold. Last winter my 9 year old battery couldn't start the faux-lux one night, and I even got frostbite on a thumb (not bad, just a little numbness and redness for a few weeks) trying to figure out how to get home that night. I don't want to ever have to worry about that, so the ability to make it warm itself up (both the cabin and the engine) off of a little fuel and the auxiliary battery is pretty great.
If you really are worried, carry a can of starting fluid, and disconnect your glow screen--I'm confident it will start easily with that.

Nice work Dan, but have you thought of mounting the webasto with rubbers instead of direct to the body? I always get paranoid about mounting complex parts without some vibration protection from the 1HZ. It makes for more complex mounts but good for longevity IMO. Just a thought, I'm sure thousands have had no trouble without it.I get time to play with the 60 this week! Yay!!!!
First thing was fabricating a little bit....
Yep! A Thermo Top C!

And finessing the brackets to hold it right where I want it, and then powder coating them in satin black....
