Nice thinking there with the cargo rack LC magi. What did you use for the hinges? I'm have a hinge dilemma at the moment......

Also curious as to your design decisions in terms of the bar work. While it seems a simple square frame would have worked I really dig the way you added the bars out to the sides etc.

The hinges are actually really simple. It's just a 1 and 1/4 OD round tube slipped inside a piece of 1 and 1/2 OD x .120 D.O.M with a mounting bracket welded to each side. LCWizard cut the side plates for me on the plasma table we have at work.

As far as the bars on the side of the cargo barrier go they were actually an after thought. The first hoop I bent up was like you say just a square but after mounting it in my truck and flipping it up it hit the corners of my hoop on the gussets at the top of my cage. So I narrowed the hoop and then I had open space on the sides. So I added the two side tubes to fill space and make it easier to mount my pins that lock the barrier up and down. I originally intended for my dog to be able to ride on top of the rack with all my crap underneath it but I'm in the process of trying to make it more dog friendly I'm looking into getting some racing nets to mount on the sides of my roll cage so he can't roll out.

Truck looks good, just take the proper precautions to make sure you're around to enjoy it.

I had replaced all the manifold gaskets due to leaks and not being able to pass smog. When I tried to start it, it ran like sh*t, so I've been dreading having to dig into it. Battery was dead. Charged it, started it, ran like sh*t still. It turns out that the choke has so much throw that it chokes it to death. With 1/2 choke it fired up and ran great. Ready to attempt a trip to the smog man now.

Motivated, I tore into the trac bar. Long story short, it's held together with some roll pins and one section tore loose last year at Rubithon. I pulled it out, punched out the four 3/16" roll pins, redrilled and replaced them with 1/4" roll pins and added two extra ones for good measure.

3/16" pins double sheer strength is 4150 lbs and I had two of them shear, so there's a relative force of over 8250 lbs on that segment . The 1/4" pins double sheer strength is 7150 and I now have three of them, so almost triple the strength of what I had before.

Added some bling today with this TEQ badge I bought off eBay:

Some people prefer grille mounting but I think I already have enough there (what with the big "Toyota" emblem and the "Diesel" badge) so I chose the driver's side. (BTW. This is a right-hand-drive neighbourhood in case you're wondering about that.)

Couldn't bear to drill holes so I turned the back of the badge in the lathe so that it would sit flush (because it was concave) and simply glued it on.

Maybe I overheated it a bit because some of the thick red enamel chipped away from the brass base-casting/backing.

But thankfully my photos are being rather kind in that you can't really see the red paint I used to touch-up the damage..

Got back from the epic 6k mile road trip of the SW in the FJ Cruiser. Monument Valley was the best. Adjusted the valves in the 3FE that is in my 40.

Spent a week admiring it sitting a foot off the ground on jack stands waiting for parts - front axle rebuilds are easy , shipping small parts evidently is not ....

After using my windshield wipers for the first time last Friday and noticing they didn't run on high, I did a little research on MUD.....With the help of several post on here, I took my wiper motor apart, cleaned it all up, reassembled with new white lithium grease, sprayed the joints and greased the knuckle....they run just fine now.

Tried my hand at inspecting a diff while it was out of the 40...glad I did. Turns out my backlash is slightly out of spec (~0.011) and I have 0 in.lb. of preload in the pinion, even with the nut torqued to 160ft.lbs. using my cool red-neck SST and a big torque wrench. So, I've officially opened up a can of worms. Wanted to replace a seal...Now I get to start exploring the wonderful and mysterious world of preload shims...

I also managed to snap the barrel in the clamp for my dial indicator stand, so now it looks like I get to buy a new base. All in all, definitely a "two-steps-backward" weekend so far...
