Spent a crazy amount of time cleaning my FJ40 carb last night. Hope to complete the rebuild tonight. I'm also in the process of swapping some FJ60 diffs out on same FJ40 so I can try out the 3.73 gearing. Ordered new flanges, seals, gaskets and axle bearings from cruiseroutfitters and those parts should be in tomorrow. Bought the diffs from cruiseryard.com, though they're may be some problem with my order. Ordered two, but only one arrived in a box that looks like it went through hell. I'll post pics of the diff work. Here is my newly cleaned carb. UPDATE ON THIS- Ends up cruiseryard sent two diffs with different gear ratios and Jason at cruiseryard won't make it right because he said it has been too long since I made the purchase. He didn't care that I just went to install the front diff and discovered he sent me two different diffs. Would never purchase from them again. Seems to me it doesn't matter about the time, it matters that he sent me the wrong part. He lost a customer with deep pockets.

You can really see the tread curve on those 10.5" ATs. Those rims are too narrow for those tires, IMO.

That actually brings up a quick/good question. The garage that put these on filled 'em up to 32. What do folks typically run these at? Thanks in advance...

Do a tread patern test to figure out the correct PSI for your setup.

Found some doors on Craigslist finally! 15 mins and $100 I had them in the truck heading home.

A little rust on the drivers bottom but I couldn't beat the price.

Welded up a frame to repalce my passenger seat that will hold my new refrigerator during camping trips. Held down with tabs and turnbuckles - very sturdy!

Man, that is (nearly) exactly what I'm going to do, 'cept I was just going to make a plywood platform. Now you may shame me into doing something better. Great execution of a good idea!

Tested my wife's patience by picking up a souvenir in New Mexico on our way back to Tennessee,... Thanks Gabe.

I like the on board refrigerator idea above.
Just back from 2 weeks of camping and ice cooler management in the desert is a nuisance.

Finished painting mine. The front half was not painted when all the rust repair work was done on the back half. Not too bad considering rattle cans (Cruiser Corps freeborn red) and a hand held sanding block!

Nice work - like the 70 series (?) front turn signals too.

25 psi on my heavy 40 with 8" wide rims. 32 was spooky. 25 is a little hard and will likely increase wear, but at $5-6/gal I'm hoping to save a bit of fuel... Also, steering is a little easier with arm strong steering.

77 FJ40. Removed my rear diff and installed an FJ60 diff with 3.73 gearing. I really like how it performs on the road now. Had a little trouble regarding the spacer in the diff, but got it worked out. Also replace the axle bearings and seals. And installed the greaseable bolts in my leaf springs. Rebuilt the carb, but I'm still not happy with that. Might go for a new one at some point.

Been working on my 1981 FJ45, finished with the hood, fenders, front bib, those things that go above the fenders, plated many parts and rebuild the PTO shaft among many other things. What do you think guys about the PTO winch with zinc plated rollers and bolts?

It all begun like this:

Created this 2-gauge cluster, for a new tach and vacuum gauge and placed it over the radio-hole. Having never built anything out of sheet metal, I wasn't sure I could do this without a brake. But, I used 26ga sheet metal and was able to bend it with some clamps and a metal straight-edge.

Now, when I get my carb back from Jim, I will be able to tell that it's running :hmm:
