What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Well, this is more of a last couple of weeks thing, but here goes anyways.

I finally pulled the top off the 40:

Luckily I didn't find too much rust. Nothing completely rusted through, but definitely some pitting. I had a feeling it would be there due to some rust stains and a little cancer on the inside lip of the top. I wire wheeled it then put a couple of coats of rust converter (turns black) on. I really like this stuff (made by Permatex, no affiliation) because it seems to really coat any rust and convert it to iron phosphate. (No pics).

Next up was to continue my year long battle with the d*mn carpet adhesive a la Tijuana. That stuff is a major pain to get off. I sent $5 bucks to a Carribean voodoo woman put a curse on the PO for putting carpet in a Land Cruiser. Anyways, once I got the tub clean enough I fitted my MetalTech Jackson cage. After I had it set like I wanted I bolted it in and fitted and burned in the front and rear frame ties. Grade 8 hardware used throughout. The frame ties were more work than I had initially thought, but I'm glad I got them in. I got some good father son time in as my dad came out to visit.

My welds aren't the purtiest, but I'm using a ~21 year old, new to me, MillerMatic 200 (which I love) and they look like they'll hold plenty good (a little undercutting and spatter, but hey I just started welding a month ago and I'm self taught:bang:).

Well, that's all for now. I started yesterday on removing the old weatherstripping. My next project will be all new door weatherstripping and window felts (squeegee, etc). Well thats all folks:beer::beer::beer:.

Replaced dead battery with yellow top optima AND DROVE IT TO WORK. She has been sitting patiently waiting for me to bring back to life

He's going Plug-in Hybrid?

Acquired a Fibreglass bonnet and Front grill to go with the fibreglass roof. Collected a 60 series front axle, now I have the disk brakes for the front, now to sniff out another so I can go to 4 wheel Disc brakes.

Organised the Panelshop to tidy up and mod my guards, I want to have them cut and shut to make them wider but look stock. Out of three pairs of rusty /cracked guards I should get a good pair. Fun costs money how hard do ya wanna laugh he said.

Still making my mind up on a colour (color), thinking a mid blue, I like the dark blue but the body isn't straight enough...

with the fancy fenders are you going to tube them or get some bar work so they stay fancy? For me it didn't take long to find them copping hits when you start to do some serious wheeling.

biders4wd to some nice fender hugging brush bars if youre looking..

the other week i drove about 5hrs to a new camping/wheeling spot and did some driving..

Progress...

1. Got a fan shroud from a local mudder. Thanks sputnik40! Still planning on pulling the number 6 freeze plug to make sure everything is truly clean.

2. Installed a new working temp guage.

3. Oredered the wrong parking brake cable . So I couldnt reinstall my tranny and t-case. But I got a good deal on some RDB parts so decided to do that instead. Still waiting on parts and the urge to finish the rest of the brake lines to get it all buttoned up and ready to go.

Either way I'm making progress :flipoff2:
