What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Shoot, didn't have a washer so I just gooped everything up with FIPG, hand tightened it then tightened it again the next day once the goop dried....no leaks!

Downside is it's not reusable and will likely be a PITA to clean off next time when I will have a washer.

Noticed that my oil pan drain plug was weeping from the previous owner so I got a copper washer from an auto store. Fresh oil change and new washer and it's still weeping. In my infinite wisdom I decided to loosen the bolt so I could drain the good oil into a bucket and find the issue. Problem is I backed off the bolt too much and I dumped over 9 liters of oil on my garage floor.

Ordered the oem drain plug gasket/washer and I'll try again this week. It's a plastic/pressed fiber style so we shall see how it goes.

I changed both diffs, trans and transfer case fluids out just in case. Last fluid to check before a real attempt at starting is the diesel in the tank. I'm hoping it's empty and I can put fresh fuel in it and prime the lines.
I have recently dealt with a similar drain plug situation. I had a new OEM drain plug and new fiber washer. Still leaked a bit. Used teflon tape and some Megalock thread sealant to stop the drip.

To do it without loosing all the new oil, I used a shop vac inserted into the valve cover oil fill cap with some tape. The vacuum kept all the oil in pan and was able to remove the oil drain plug with no oil loss. It works albeit a bit strange and a little alarming of a procedure.

When I pulled my F.5 I noticed that there was a crack in the threads of the oil pan. Probably from over tightening the plug. I would assume you could weld and re-tap the threads.
Love the vacuum idea.

Muzzle loading round balls are soft lead. Split shot fishing sinkers are/were soft lead. Regular bird shot is usually soft enough. 12 ga buck shot rounds have soft lead balls if they are not copper plated. Sheet lead is soft lead. Stained glass is made with soft lead channel.
Get a big spoon that you will never use again for food (thrift store). Melt the lead with a propane torch in the spoon. Pick up spoon with pliers, pour the liquid lead carefully on some dry newspaper that's on a flat level surface. You will get a disk that's about 1/8" thick. You can pound on it with a flat faced hammer to thin it down if necessary. Use a gasket hole punch to make the hole - drilling lead doesn't work very well. Take a piece of steel pipe the right OD size and sharpen the inside to a cone - it will cut a hole - use them on a block of wood to protect the punch.

Picked it up this weekend. Bought it from the widow of the man that imported it from Australia. She showed us a whole photo album of him buying the truck, picking it up stateside and doing a frame off restoration. He called it the Fox and we’ll do the same.

I have a stack of receipts and emails from the previous owner Bill and I’m told he came to Mud for questions. If anyone recognizes the truck and knows if there’s a build thread I’d love a link to it. Going off of his checklist to see what it needs before I can drive it.

It’s got the 2H, a 5 speed behind it and a dump bed. It’s an hj47, so if there’s a better thread/section in the forum please let me know.

Picked up a 47 recently in Aus in the same colour, but yours looks abit tidier than mine! Amazing how they get transported all over the world mines an 84 model originally from Mackay. Mine will stay in Australia for now haha.

Well, at least its not in the driveway . I am unfortunately, guilty of that.

I've been living with a similar issue - a slight bead of RTV on the crush washer (both sides) will solve your issue. The problem is with the pan - it was dinged or distorted somehow.
I don't believe that is the issue in my specific case. This engine was taken out, rebuilt and painted and I didn't see any deformation when I was under it. I was reading on another thread that there is a channel in the threads at the bottom. Someone there used a loctite product to get it to seal

This is just as cool in my opinion! Well worn cruisers look just as good as restored ones and I'm digging the patina. If you're keen I'd love to be able to ask you questions as we never got the 2H in the US and I'm not sure this was put back together correctly.

I think today I would have gotten a ticket with them in the car seats on the back on the jump seats.
Yeah I think I am fine here. Hell I drove around town here with Margot strapped in the car seat with the doors off and windsheild folded in my suzuki samurai. That being said the speed limit around town is 25mph.

I have been enjoying the land cruiser as a family car! View attachment 4147812

My wife let me bring our son home in our 60 series, but put her foot down when I tried to propose our land cruisers as family cars. She wanted the airbags and safety features. This is awesome

I had Josh in his car seat in the passenger bucket with the top and doors off and as usual it started to rain and not a peep out of him.
