Finally got the 47 onto the hoist so I could check the chassis and start cleaning and prep for some chassis black. Happy nothing major to deal with ordered a full terrain tamer parabolic kit. Should arrive next week, so I have a goal to get underneath tidied up before it arrives

I replaced the ignition relay then put 130 miles on it in Arkansas Ouachita mountains. It has been a beautiful weekend although I did get to test the windshield wipers. Luckily the rain was not much more than a heavy drizzle and they worked fine. There’d have been a different verdict had the rain been anything more. I’m going to try to go thru the wiper system to see if I can improve it, I’m not expecting much improvement but anything at all would be good.

Sparkplugs. Pulled them out, cleaned them up and put them back in. Wire wheel on a Dremel works pretty well, I think. Cleaned up all my trail-spare sparkplugs (never can tell when you'll need 12 spares on a run).
I cleaned these a year ago. Running Ca gas. What do the plugs say?

Since seeing that thread I've wanted to do this too. But yours looks fabulous.
It seems I have misplaced the control module under the dash or I shipped it with some emissions parts I gave away before. So, I might just put it on a toggle switch so I can turn it on when I'm having starting issues. It could also be a carb adjustment. Once warmed up if she doesn't fire up it seems to be flooded.

They look good, your mixture and (lack of) oil consumption look to be spot on. The color on the insulator looks a little reddish in the photo; could be the light or it could be some weird CA additive?

Looks good. I retrofitted mine on a 1976 40 using a controller from that vintage. In 1976 CA spec they located the fan on front drivers side towards the radiator. They later moved it to drivers side on 1978+ to better direct the air to the manifold and carb. The key for me was the snap switch which you can order with different temp tolerances. It works very well and stopped the hard starts.

Thank you for the awesome information.

There's hope for you. I just had my wiper system overhauled. It works very well now.

Noticed that my oil pan drain plug was weeping from the previous owner so I got a copper washer from an auto store. Fresh oil change and new washer and it's still weeping. In my infinite wisdom I decided to loosen the bolt so I could drain the good oil into a bucket and find the issue. Problem is I backed off the bolt too much and I dumped over 9 liters of oil on my garage floor.

Ordered the oem drain plug gasket/washer and I'll try again this week. It's a plastic/pressed fiber style so we shall see how it goes.

I changed both diffs, trans and transfer case fluids out just in case. Last fluid to check before a real attempt at starting is the diesel in the tank. I'm hoping it's empty and I can put fresh fuel in it and prime the lines.

I've been living with a similar issue - a slight bead of RTV on the crush washer (both sides) will solve your issue. The problem is with the pan - it was dinged or distorted somehow.

Sometimes, I might go as far as to put just a little of the RTV on the threads too, you know, while I'm in there...
