What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Got a little tired of not having something in the background so I picked up a set of the SOR front speaker mounts for the floorboard corners. It’s been too cold to paint them so I brought them downstairs and used Touch-Up Direct spray cans to prime, color coat and clear. Once they harden I can wet sand and polish. I have a nice set of front speakers that should be enough to hear it well and a set of rear 6x9 boxes mounted into the curve of the rear sill.

Dropped in to see paint progress. I’m straining my arm patting myself on the back for the body work I completed. Everything from the front seats back is new except the upper tub lip. Still a long way to go as everything will be skim coated, sanded, seam sealed, primered again then we get to color

Pitter Patter, where did you get the 3/4 tub? Or was it numerous pieces? Looks great BTW!

I would be curious as to the final cost from the shop that is doing the painting if your up to disclosing the price when they are finished. I’m sure a new paint job is on everyones wish list.

It was pieces I cobbled together. Lots of work as nothing really fit correctly. Had to do a lot of cutting the pieces apart to change angles and patch them back together. Took 2ish~ years of lazily working on it during weekends.

I’m happy to share when we get to that point. Going to be an obscene number. You’d be better off buying an epic already restored 40 vs doing a restoration with a full repaint.

I’m doing this because it’s something I want to do for me. And I’m keeping the truck. Part of my thought process is that I live in an area where it’s common to see G-wagons, Urus, Cullinan’s, etc. The masses of the people obviously have no problem spending multiple hundreds of thousands on a car. I’ll spend whatever I want to have the 40 I want.

Also, after a lot of pro/con on paint vs undercoating. I’ve decided to go with a color match undercoating on the underside of the tub. This will be a driver and I want the extra protection.

What product do you plan on using for the color-matched undercoating?

I recently received the @OPMACHINE bumper I ordered, and while I’m impressed with its overall quality and design, I’m really disappointed with the color. The shade is completely different from what I expected, based on photos of other parts powder-coated in “Vegas Gold.” I’m not sure if it’s due to a bad batch of powder from Prismatic or if the wrong shade was chosen, but either way, it’s nowhere near the pewter color that matches the rest of my car. I’ll be getting it powder-coated again next week, so that’s a few hundred bucks I didn’t plan for. It’s a shame having to refinish it, especially since the quality of the powder coat itself is top-notch, just like the rest of the bumper. Looking back, I kind of wish I’d just gone with the unpainted version. For comparison, I’ve attached a photo of a brand-new OEM mirror in pewter next to the “Vegas Gold” bumper.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a gorgeous bumper and I would most definitely buy it again—I was just let down by the color. I will post a follow up picture once it's been repainted in something more to my liking. I'm thinking of going with Prismatic Steel Silver PMB-5208.

If it makes you feel any better- if you ordered 10 mirrors from Toyota, they’d all be a different shade.

It doesn't make me feel any better, but you ARE right. My right mirror doesn't match my left mirror either LOL.

Thanks for sharing. I went the Topnault tub route and mine didn't come close to yours in appearance. From the pictures your work is top notch!
