My take is enjoy her as much as possible. Most of the time on the 5th floor by the elevator! Sometimes I end up on the 7th floor...
I appreciate your consistency.

As long as we are talking about parking lot tech, I gotta tell this story. My buddy built his '76, or '77 SOA, locked, SM465, Saginaw FJ40-rig at his residence. He took it, and a scholarship with him to the out-of-state-University, where we met. At the time, we somehow discovered that the hospital / med-school parking was basically unchecked for permits. The parking structure was a ghost town on the forth and the uncovered level above it. And so, that is where this 40 underwent a rattle-can paint job, and bed-liner coating on the interior steel. He painted the exterior flat army green, so it had a Willy's-look but, with a rock crawling cage, especially with the soft-top removed. That rig was the biggest distraction ever, there was no internet, Chevy's always sported Rancho advertisement, and a chrome diff cover. So, it was like, "Rock Crawling, what is that?" Regardless, rock crawling, and hot springs found its way into the gender-segregated dormitories, and the flat-enamel that garnered so much attention was applied under the parking structure roof when no one was looking.

I guess I didn't really "do" anything with her except that I drove her to work this morning. I went out at lunch to find this parked next to me.

Finished welding the quarter panel patches and rear sill replacement. Shot it in 2k epoxy primer.

Added a fancy little gadget from Mr Landcruiser way down South in Queensland, Australia. High quality part to push that hood ..Bonnet....up out of the way!! Works like a charm with much more head room. Only 2 holes drilled into the firewall support rib. Not a cheap plastic part but good ole steel and looks like black powder coating . Came with everything you need. Easy peezy 🍻
I believe it's manufactured by LCS4X4.com.au

I like how the struts are out of the way on that kit. A lot of the struts setups hamper side entry into the engine compartment. More often than not, I lean it all the way up on the windshield. This is fine- unless it’s windy.

How does the wind affect the hood staying up?

I do my work in the shop but this is a pretty solid strut and holds up tight. Lot better than leaning against windshield for normal maintenance checks. I personally don't want to take the chance of beating my hood up. If I go all the way up I throw a towel over the windshield frame center. The original bar strut seams to always be just not enough room for me. I have no reason to believe the wind would effect it.....unless you're in a high wind situation.

Eaton has an e locker for almost all Toyota diffs now.

Unfortunately not for semi-float 40/45/55/60 rears - unless something has changed. I called and bugged them again recently but they'd rather make new products for vehicles that are manufactured in the hundreds of thousands. Like a Prado.

I have more hope for Auburn Gear to come through as they make electric lockers now too. They even make rebuildable clutchpack limited slip-to-lock versions for some vehicles. Many of their products are still made in house in small batches and they're still a small enough company to listen. They'd need a lot of input from potential buyers but they've indicated that a rear electric locker for older LCs is on their radar.

What did I do to my LC today?

I unlocked the hubs. Not sure we'll get much snow this week.

Finally got around to removing my bezel to get rid of the silver hammer finish paint (from a PO).
I've lathered it in eco friendly paint stripper and left it sweating in a plastic bag overnight. Hopefully tomorrow brings a shiny bezel ready for the rattle can of 031 paint which is awaiting it.

After a nice easy scrape and a good wash off, you'd think this bezel was good as new

I was able to get my engine and transmission back in today. And I have to admit is was kind of a non event.

The hooks were fine, and the roll the 40 under the raised engine method reduced the need to move the engine lift almost completely.

For anyone that might tackle this in the future. A few things I found.

1. You do need to have the hoist all the way out. I tried to pull it to the one ton length and there was not quite enough reach to get the engine home.
2. I used the leveler configuration in the picture and the engine hung nearly perfect. The transmission hung about 8 inches lower that the engine which was a great angle to attack with.
3. Right at the end I put a floor jack below the transfer case which helped get the engine the last couple of inches.
4. Also I invented a new safety for the hooks by clamping some vice grips right under the shackles 😁

Replaced my battery tray and only had to drill out one bolt that sheered off. Also replaced the Clutch MC and slave cylinder, was going to replace hose to the slave but found that my truck is right on the cutoff for that part that changed in 9\77 so I must have the earlier version which is longer. Mine didn’t look bad so I reinstalled it.

Kelly, I put that same tray in my 40 a couple years ago and the coating cracked and split pretty quickly. Just a heads up.

Thank Ian, can’t be any worse than what I removed. God knows the size of the bolt heads I removed, 12mm was too big and 11mm wouldn’t fit even with encouragement from a BFH. Used a 15/32” socket and got all but one out, had to left hand drill that sucker out. Coated everything in Fluid Film and installed with clean recycled JIS bolts that came off the 80.
