Starting to get the door disassembled for sheetmetal repairs and paint prep. I think these door sat on the ground for years and rotted the bottoms out or the weather seals leaked water down into them.

The drains at the bottom get clogged and they hold water.

Because I wanted to sit 2 inches higher in the driver seat.
I’m a typical height at 5”11 and every pickup I have had since 1979 I had to lift the seats. I. The last 30 years, even with power seats they don’t seem to place me in a comfortable height behind the wheel. Using a 1” to 1 1/2” lift gives me much for flexibility in the seat adjustment. Now with those memory buttons, I don’t care who screws with the seat…it goes back to the right spot.

I am building up the seat base in my ‘75 FJ40 this weekend…it may be that the upholstery foam has settled. It was re-done so it’s hard to say but a little lift makes it great.

Finally have ALL the lights working as they are supposed to. 👍 Bad grounds, corroded housings and bad connections. On the front turn signals, one was much brighter than the other, the wires were backwards on one side.

I know almost nothing about auto mechanics but was able to get all the lights & turn signals on my FJ40 working pretty much with the same process. It is sometimes perplexing to fix something that was installed/replaced by people or parts manufacturers who surely know a heck of a lot more about this stuff than I do. You wouldn’t expect them to reverse the wires or forget a ground wire.

Yea. This one had been redone at some point and the one bright light/one dull light I guess didn't bother the PO. I think most on this forum it would drive insane, it did me. All part of the process and “fun” though, right? 😆

I finally put on the headliner. The front came out great. But the middle might not have adhered properly, and the back got a bit wrinkled. 🤷🏼 I tried. It’s far better than the ¾ inch rigid foam sheets that were there when I bought it.

Also it’s not as bad as the second picture makes it look. The shadows make it look terrible!

I finally got around to bleeding the brakes. I changed the rest of the fluids a month ago but the brakes kept getting put on the back burner as there is so much to do to get this truck road worthy. Yesterday as I was under the hood for something else I glanced at the master cylinder reservoirs and it was all too plain to see the fluid was the color of cough syrup and had to be years and years old and holding more water than I cared to think about. So I got out my hi tech bleeding equipment and went to work. Reverse bleeder? power bleeder? Well no, actually a piece of clear fuel line with a loop in it and a very old coke bottle that I've used for decades. I'm able to do the job myself with no one pumping the pedal as I do that with the bleeder cracked a quartet turn as I work wheel to wheel. Taking my time I had the whole system flushed in about a half hour and crossed that off my long "to do" list. Next job, dial in the ignition timing with a vacuum gauge.

I understand the long list of road worthy all to well.

My next step closer is knuckle rebuilds and a full brake rebuild. Lines and all.

The mounting plate arrived late yesterday so I installed the winch when I got home. Removing the tow hooks was a bi-atch.!! I don't think they'd ever been taken off! The CCOT mounting plate is stout piece of metal and was a precise fit for the frame and the winch.

All in all the install took about 2 hours. Didn't have time to connect the cables, will do that this weekend.

Oh yeah, I also bought her a nice set of Stilettos. (235/85/R16) :) I'll get them mounted tomorrow.

Very nice. I wonder if this plate will work with a Saginaw steering box

I replaced my washer pump harness plug, buttoned up the wiring and got the system working again with a new hood nozzle. Then finished bolting up the front apron to the fenders and doing my best to align all the panels. These old girls don't have the best fit-up and gaps. Next up, install driver-side running board and rear view mirror.
Can you shoot a photo of your washer reservoir install? I don't have one and bought an aftermarket version. Not clear on where it goes in the engine bay.
Cheers

Installed 3 of my HFS lift springs and shackles with bushings.. it would have been 4 If I had paid more attention and not put a front spring on the rear only to notice as I was putting the front together 😐

Oh well. Progress.
You will like them... 👍
