What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Hi all,
First post here. I impulsively bought a 71 FJ40 over the summer. I'm not really a car guy and I didn't know much about them, but after a test drive, I was hooked. Three on the tree, no power steering, it was great...


Anyway, I'm slowly planning on restoring it to the best of my ability. This weekend I redid the undercarriage. I followed allot of the advice from these forums.

Here are some before and after pictures.

The fuel system on my 70 (It says 12/69 on the plate, but the title says 70 so I'm assuming 70?) is in bad shape and needs new everything. This weekend I pulled off the qjet, put on a 1916 offroad carb and I'm working on throttle linkage now. I also took delivery of intact vent window glass, so I'm working on replacing the glass and rubber (how the hell do you get that old stuff off??)

Parked it in the garage in favor of something a little better on fuel, and better AC.

I felt a bit saddened when I see you parked it …but then…better A/C? ok,

It has been well into the 95+ region here in the garden state. Garden State…..We have more asphalt here than most anyplace in the country and it radiates heat really well

I must of caught that plane taking off. I was right under you at the park on Vista Del Mar!
We where watching the planes take off and guessing if they where banking right or left.
That’s if you flew out of LAX.?

I had the front side-light, right side bulb fail after 52 years and the plastic mounting plate broke when trying to replace bulb. I got SOR replacement light and only used the plastic mounting plate. Then after the annual state safety inspection, drove around for miles and miles. I had so many honks I was thinking a warning for accident. It took a while to realize the honking was just a hello. I also replaced the Micky Thompson 32 X 11.5 R15 tires with Toyo 30 X 9.5 R15. It handles better, easier to turn and is about 1" shorter. Now just enjoying the FJ40 that's been in our family since new.

I replaced the right side side-light and tires. Spent rest of the weekend just driving and enjoying this beauty!
