What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week? (41 Viewers)

Taking a break from my '71 FJ40 build, the new Tuff Shed is coming a week for tomorrow and I need to finish the base course pad. And some urgent work on my '93 4-Runner. My son's been driving it since he went off to college in '01, and it's been limping along since then. The 3VZ-E is at 285,000 miles, so way overdue for a new timing belt, plus the engine's been sucking the A/T fluid out of the power steering pump through a failed air control valve. My son's staying with us for a few days and we're charting new territory. The only significant work I've done on anything but a Land Cruiser was on my '66 Mercury Cyclone GT (45 years ago) and my '90 4-Runner (transmission replacement). We're committed now:

It's pretty straight forward John. Replacing the water pump and tensioner I hope.

When out to the workshop with good intentions to tinker on the Toy but got sidetracked with some other projects.
I did manage to check the engine oil and was happy to find the dipstick still works.
Years ago I knew a kid that was a musician and could play the guitar very well but that was about all he could do.
One day he came over to my house claiming the dip stick on his Dodge van was broken because it didn't show any oil on it.
I was surprised he even knew there was a dipstick and where it was.
I checked the oil and sure enough the stick was bone dry.
I told him to let the van set and we and we jumped in the cruiser to run up to the local NAPA for some oil.
Memory say it took 2 1/2 quarts.
I showed him how and where to put the oil in and sent him happily on his way.
A couple of hours later he came back with a six pack of Michelob to thank me for the help.
The pack had four empties and two full bottles.
At least they were cold.
He made a joke about the boys in the band had gotten to it before hand.
I said thanks and twisted the top one and he grabbed the other and sat there and drank it with me.
I guess he had gotten tired of drinking alone.

You bet, along with other things we're running across. Belts, hoses (with OEM hose clamps), PS pump rebuild, repair of pinhole radiator leak, NGK plugs and Denso wires, thermostat, PCV valve, oil and filter, cooling flush and refill, etc. Keeping the vehicle running a while longer sure beats spending $$$ on a good used 5th generation 4-Runner.

Replaced my Non-US distributor that came with my truck with a brand spanking new Toyota replacement. You can read about the highway speed deficiency, carb coughing diagnosis here. It runs great and the Weber is strong!

Went for plumbing project materials and found a ‘cousin’ to park next to :grinpimp:

This engine is not that bad to work on. The unfamiliarity is the hurdle, once past that you'll be good. Last job was dealing with leaky valve cover gaskets and what I encountered were brittle plastic parts that crumbled.

Maybe it's just my phone but your 40 looks pink as a barbie jeep in that picture!

I saw the same. Looking again it looks like I see a red reflection in the hub caps. Must be reflection from a brite red vehicle.
Our phones are so great we can see it..lol😃
