Started radio installation -- Yaesu FTM-400XDR in a 2018 LX570.

The location options for the radio body seem a bit limited (unless you want to go full remote install). I couldn't find many examples of what others had done, so I thought I'd document my attempt to put it on the passenger footwell access panel. It's nicely out of the way, but it remains to be seen if the location is a good idea or not (I think the panel may be okay holding the weight, but that remains to be proven out).

Probably won't get to finish connecting everything until later this week.

Some pictures if you're interested: Can I drill through the side panel of the center console to run wiring? (see picture) - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/can-i-drill-through-the-side-panel-of-the-center-console-to-run-wiring-see-picture.1300976/#post-14755421

Mounted my front license plate without drilling holes in the bumper using this plate I found at the local Subaru dealership parts counter.

Subaru part number SOA342L171.

I used low profile Torx machine screws with blue locktite to mount the plate, then mounted the license plate using the bottom holes with allen head button head screws, backed with nyloc nuts. All hardware used is stainless steel. I was worried about clearing the plastic behind the plate, but ended up with enough clearance without anything touching.

And I discovered this just the other day. Wish I could have caught the idiot who caused it.

This why we can't have nice things.

I'll follow up with a part number.

My little nightmare.

Cross-posting from the Icon Vector 5 thread:

I just ordered a set of bronze 17" Icons because that's the only color that was available. Bronze definitely wouldn't be my first choice for a Silver vehicle. Should I paint them (gunmetal/graphite/whatever grey) or just mount them up?

What would MUD do?

That all depends.

If I have a good vetted and fair priced shop, gloss black, as all wheels should be.
If you have to hunt around and hope n pray and pay more than at most a couple hundred a wheel, nah. Run them till they need to be refinished. 100$/wheel is what my limit would be unless I knew for a fact they did flawless work like a proper strip and powder-coat that lasts.

But gotta agree bronze ain’t my cup of tea either. Is budget a concern? If not do silver or black IMO.

Silver heritages came with the bronze wheels. I'd say to put them on and see what you think. Might look better than you think.

Black and Titanium are both out of stock, which according to the guy at 4WP means ICON needs to make another batch before they'll ship out. could be anywhere from a month to 6 months, who knows?

And cost is definitely a factor. Even the vector 5's wouldn't be my first choice of wheel (I think they look great, but a little to "fancy" for my tastes). But they were on sale under $250/wheel, and I am a fully self-aware cheap ass. I would be painting them myself with rattle can wheel paint. Nothing about my truck is "clean" or even "nice" so getting a perfect finish would not be a concern of mine. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before I beat them up on a rock anyway.

Dont even bother then IMO. I actually like that wheel too.

You've waited long enough for those! Put em on!! Post pics!!!

What tires did you end up choosing?

Did the following:
New lower control arms
Tie rod ends
2016+ brakes
Front diff mounts
Reinforced notch in coil bucket

To do:
Waiting on RCV axles
Possibly design new billet upper arms that use oem bushings and 1.5" uniball. I hate the urethane bushings all the aftermarket upper control arms use.

ICON Billet UCA do not use urethane bushings. Mine have been completely quiet and trouble-free.

@Quidnam which antenna have you mounted? I've got that mount on order from Kaon, but ordered a whip antenna, which isn't my first choice.

I'm going with a RAM seat wedge mount/remote head with base mounted to the back of my drawers. I'm not buying yet another radio and will be moving my old FTM-350 back and forth between trucks.

It's a COMPACtenna 2M/220/440. Not sure how well it is going to perform compared to a more standard whip, but I figured it should be easy enough to swap in something different using the NMO mount if needed. The form factor is pretty nice, so I'll likely stick with that if it works well enough.

Assume you're talking about the ones with heims on the inner pivots?

Trying to find some with oem type bushings. Like ironman but with a uniball.
