I got the final prototype of the rear antenna and light pod mount installed and these have been ordered and will be available in the next few weeks.

On the plus side, CRC now makes a cute little kit that has a small bottle of MAF cleaner and similar bottle of throttle body cleaner, $9 from Amazon. I use a K&N filter and the conspiracy theorist in me wonders if the oil in that doesn't pass through to the MAF and throttle body and dirty them more quickly.

TM, I also wondered if the K&N was allowing oil into intake. I was told by a master mechanic, "if oil gets on the MAF it would cause problems", which would most likely result in a CEL. Over the years I was careful not to "over oil" the filter. I also would check the MAF for oil, by swabbing with a Q-tip. I never found any oil of any significance. Meaning the Q-tip cotton was not oily after lightly swabbing the MAF wires each ~20K.

That said I stop using the K&N air filter after reading this independent report: Filtration Testing for Amsoil, K&N, Napa, Jackson Racing, Baldwin, and Mazda air filters on a Miata

I had the same thought on the oil from K&N passing into the TB. But I dont believe it does. Check the top of the filter box & opening of the intake tube nearest the filter for oil build up from the filter. That might point to blow by from the filter ( or not).

I have been running at the OEM Toyota filter, and have the same build up on the throttle plate; and I keep my filters clean/changed and use silicone grease on the edge filter seal to make sure there is nothing seeping by the seal surface. That build up may be leaking in through the o-ring at the MAF sensor, or the connection at the TB, or one of the vacuum lines on the sound resonator. FWIW I run a K&N in my RAM1500 and the TB is pretty clean, as well as the MAF, leading me to believe the K&N may not be your culprit.

That said my opinion is based on the K&N as it came out of the box pre-oiled. if you have washed your K&N and re-oiled it; and if you laid the oil on heavy with out letting it soak in and dry for a few days before installing, its plausible that some blow by oil has built up in that throttle plate.

With K&N filters and the fact people re-oil and clean their own, you can actually overoil and cause oil to penetrate the filter and cause MAF issues. It kept popping up on FJC forums when I used to own a FJC. The issue would go away with regular cleaning of MAF.

Oh, it's just the paranoia in me, I know it's not. There's no oily residue in the intake tube, that's the first place it would be. The MAF was clean when I pulled it and the gunk on the TB is all from the exhaust gas and unburnt fuel.

Esme didn't sell yet? How is that possible?

I took her off the market... Too many tire kickers! I'll keep her and when I get finished with my other rig--100/105 conversion-- I'll sell her for $5-7K more than my fire sale price.

Did an oil / filter change at 150,279 miles (13,236 on the oil / filter) and sent a sample to Blackstone Labs.

So what parts exactly are included in a 105 front clip?

C,

front frame section, radius arms, complete front axle/housing, motor mounts, all steering links/rods, coils, shocks, (RHD) steering unit, pump, brake lines, etc.. I'll use a 80 steering unit more than likely.

Plan is to design a front clip mod for the guys that want it. Complete kit with new suspension. Connector plates, cut templates, steering kit, etc..

*not a 105 clip-just a reference pic*

I shouldn’t have even asked, but you see, I did. Sounds cool! ;)
