Restored the headlights with a 3M kit that uses a hand drill. Next up, Lamin-X.

Update: did the Lamin-X kit, it is OK but not great. The fit at the headlights isn't perfect and I fought a bit on the install. I just gave up on the turn signal part, there was no way I could get a flat sheet to lay flat on the curved turn signal assembly but that is probably somewhat user error. I expect when it dries out I'll need to pop a few bubbles. Next time I might just spray with UV-resistant clear but we'll see how this holds up in the meantime.

Coming over from the 80 section, just picked up a 99 LX470 with a few issues I will be sorting out. First one was battery light. Checked voltage on a brand new battery and was only reading at 12v checked wiring and fusible links and the alternator is getting replaced. Super fun job! Looks like little maintenance has been done besides timing belt has been done all hoses are getting replaced, coil packs, plugs and serpentine belt. Also air filter not sure what that red velvet filter is.
AHC just flashes when I try to adjust so will be troubleshooting that and probably replacing with LC suspension from @cruiseroutfit time will tell.
Front end is loose at speed with slight wobble, will check steering rack and all bushings.

So I replaced alternator and serpentine belt and fusible link and magically the ahc works!!! Maybe the lack of voltage from the alternator won’t let the system work. Now waiting for new coil packs and air filter to get here, then get a drive cycle in and take it to emissions. Next up will be fuel filter and new tires. Maybe try and find some takeoffs from a newer cruiser or tundra. Need to do some research on what Toyota take off will fit?
Will need to figure out cv boots leaking and rack leaking. Might end up doing the whole front end it all looks original. Control arms are not cheep!!!

I’m betting the issue is still there. Don’t put AHC maintenance too far down your to do list.
Will keep an eye on it,
Went through and sprayed all the bolts I could see with penetrating oil old or future issues. Lots to fix but gotta keep the scope creep from taking effect and end up making a good buy into a money pit!(which is inevitable with a cruiser)

I keep having to cancel trips for life reasons, but the upside is I'm slowly knocking off things on my to-do lists.

Finally fixed the wonky rear bumper alignment and installed the front ASAP flaps and set up the retention screws & rear retention pin. I guess this truck backed into something before I owned it because the rear bumper does not sit right, and the ASAP flaps do too good of a job holding everything tight to the body. Had to add some 3/8" spacers on the driver's side, and just a washer on the passenger side 🤷‍♂️

Also the clear coat on the hood was trashed and the glare at sunset was always pretty bad, so I've been meaning to do some kind of matte black coating. I decided to roll-on Raptor Liner I also did a 2" strip on either fender because you can see a little bit of the fender while driver so, if I didn't coat it, I would inevitably be blinded by it every single day, because that's just how things work. I'm not in love with the hood finish and it doesn't photograph well but it's still worlds better than the old clearcoat.

And I finally traced down my CB issues to a bad ground and got it tuned properly. Still need to install the antenna quick-disconnect & tune it one more time in a nice wide-open space. I also have a Uniden remote CB that needs to go under the seat (I'm using a Randy II with a jury-rigged remote mic right now).

Next up will be a Loncky steering wheel cover, Honda windshield washer nozzles, 80/20 roof rack rails, a bunch of random stuff from Artisan Garage/Lumberjack Engineering, and I'm considering turning up the front torsion bars a hair to level out the stance.

Edit: as folks have rightly pointed out, my plan is to see if I can get it to sit less raked than it is now, but still within spec. It looks too raked in the front to my eye, but measurements will tell the truth.

Great feeling getting stuff done, innit?
As for stance, you want the front to be at least 1 to 1.5" lower to keep the front end nicely loaded and track straight on the highway

I finally have no more busted ball joints in the front and new bushings top and bottom as far as control arms.
We will see if I manage to get the steering rack, OTRE, lines, and pump replaced next weekend.

I think I’m sitting level now which means I need to get beefier springs in the rear
Front measured at 21.5” so I’m at 1.75” lift up front (I wanted a little wiggle room as I’m still expecting it to settle, Dobinsons says need minimum 1.5” lift)
Big fan of big tire small lift so this will likely be the max I do in the front

I repaired the (4) bigger speakers in all the doors. The ML system is awesome.

Gotta do the serpentine belt and tensioner pulley next weekend if the weather holds up. I had it all taken apart a couple weeks back to verify the noise. It was the only one making noise when spinning it freely. The belt also seems bad when I do the water spray test.

I’m praying this fixes the noise because if not, I’m thinking it’s the tensioner itself which I have no interest in doing myself.

Thanks, looked the the oddball Volvo ones someone posted about, just wanted to check.
Yes I believe this is originally for volvo estate. I saw this somewhere too a while back and
Immediately ordered one for R&D and all dimensions checked out.

Went down the rabbit hole and got into a 2-weekend project. I kept hearing a rattle from the front passenger's side door. I thought it was the door speaker, but after taking off my door panel the speaker was fine. Turns out it was the fabric covering the speaker grill. One of the previous owners had recovered it, but used a fabric that had a foam backing. The fabric and foam were too thick and was causing the fabric to vibrate against the speaker grill. I decided to re-cover the speaker grill with new fabric and while I was in there decided to sound deaden the doors and rear hatch area (because why not). For the new fabric I used Guilford of Maine FR701, which is an acoustically transparent fabric. I chose the Moleskin color which was a pretty close match to factory fabric. We'll see how it holds up over time. I finished both front door speakers, but still need to do the rear doors. Now that I have my technique down that shouldn't take very long. After the sound deadening treatment, the speakers do sound a lot better and the interior noise seems lower also. I wouldn't say it was a huge improvement, but maybe a 15-20 percent improvement in noise reduction.

I've been wanting to do this for awhile and finally dug in. I welded my own 11 ga. mounting plate to fit a 27F battery, my MESA air compressor and attach the power steering reservoir to. I bought two brand new Toyota 27F batteries. I will be installing an isolator system and other wiring this week before she heads to Moab on Saturday to live out there until winter.
