Installed a Prinsu roof rack. I love this truck.

I finally re-foamed the subwoofer. I’ll probably check some other speakers too eventually. I would think the others need repair too by now, but idk.

Also, I think I went a little over board with the rubbing alcohol and flathead….

I’ve always had a few questions about doing this, as i bet one or more of mine may need this repair.

Is this more about keeping the vehicle like factory, or are the speakers that good, that they are worth saving?

Aftermarket speaker/sub choices don’t seem all that hard to find, with good quality and fair prices, why not just replace with upgraded aftemarket?

I may be going this route on the sub specifically. Haven't searched too much yet but I am not sure there are as many aftermarket options for the sub as there are for the door speakers. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I refoamed my sub a couple years ago, but now my sub is making awful noises again. Pulled the trim today and the foam is perfectly intact... so there must be something blown with the actual speaker. I decided to just unplug the sub, the remaining speakers actually do a decent job with bass. I could probably live without the sub but will see what options are out there.

I don’t have to get the 99 inspected any longer in TX! Not even an emissions test!
Emissions testing is only for 2-24 year old gas powered vehicles. Safety testing was all vehicles, but then they axed it entirely.

My 2000 just made it to classic status last January, and then it was rear ended and "totaled" the same month. It was still driveable, but insurance offered me what I had originally paid for it, so I took the money and upgraded to an '06 a local member was selling. The 5 speed and VVTi are totally worth the five more years of emissions testing I'll have to deal with.

I replaced the door speakers and tweeters and had to re-foam the sub speaker. I couldn’t find a drop in speaker to replace it and I didn’t look very hard either. A few threads on here made it sound like even if you did find a direct drop in replacement, that the wiring that runs to it isn’t compatible. I may be misremembering some of those details. It was not a difficult job at all surprisingly. I did that repair maybe 5 years ago now? It’s still holding strong as far as I know.

Honestly, I mostly just wanted to save some money.

I guess a small piece of me likes to keep every thing OEM too. I dont think I’ll keep my LX super long term anyway (too much rust), so I try not to spend too much on it outside of mechanical repairs.

If I was planning on keeping it 5+ years, and budget wasn’t an issue, then I very likely would’ve upgraded the whole system including an amp.

Edit: Also, I’ve never had the sub work properly in my LX so idk how the repaired system will sound. I can tell you that the hi’s & mids in the system sound amazing and sharp as hell. It’s wonderful system if you’re into classical/jazz/etc.

Also, night and day difference with the sub working. I’ve got a rattle up front in the lower door speakers (driver and passenger)

Started the leather restoration on my 1998. Not sure the last time these seats have been properly cleaned and conditioned, but that is about to change. My rear and third row are in good condition, so I’m focused on the front buckets and steering wheel. I’ve had good luck with Leather Master in the past on my BMWs so I started with their soft cleaner and conditioning cream. I might need to hit the seat bottoms with their strong cleaner but let’s see how stage one goes. Here’s a couple pics of the seats in their current state. The top two pics are the driver seat and the bottom two the passenger. I will update thread along the way. Wish me luck!

I had an intermittent rear hatch lock. I've probably replaced 20 door lock motors over the five cruisers I've owned and I think the 100 series rear hatch has got to be the easiest. I keep some spare motors on hand.

Yup, it's been out for a couple years now. It's not consistently stocked in my experience though. Like right now my grocery store doesn't have it, but I could order it off Amazon if I wanted (actually sold by Amazon, not a reseller).
Taco Tuesday...

Just the thing for researching 100 Series u-joint installation.

Installed Carhartt seat covers on the middle row seats to protect them from the dog. I’m happy with the fit. Had to do some minor modifications. I couldn’t find any pictures of them before buying so here’s a couple for posterity.
