Seriously considering getting the sherpa rack for the LX. I think this is the cheapest I've ever seen this rack. Talk me out of it please.

Life is leased, go for it. You will never stop looking back at your rig every time you walk away from it. It's a feeling of pride, hard work and accomplishment.

That's the cheapest I've seen it myself. I have reeeally wanted a rack for black friday.

Edit: I bought one :)

Today I swapped in a new radiator on my '04 LX with around 168k miles. As far as I know this was the original radiator, though the upper and lower radiator hoses were changed at some point (they were Gates). Honestly the top looked pretty good and this was just a "peace of mind" repair but I am really glad I did this! If like me you've been pushing your luck with an original rad, this is your sign to swap it out!

I did most of the hoses while I was at it, but I do still need to do the rear heater hoses tomorrow before getting the system filled. Annoyingly, the Partsouq parts diagram has the wrong clamps listed for some of the connections by the heater Ts; once I get the right clamps I'll do the Ts as well. Usually I'd wait to have everything on-hand but I have some time between jobs now and have been antsy to get the radiator in. I also did the thermostat/gasket and was surprised to find a non-OEM thermostat had been installed. A couple of the hoses coming off the oil cooler were pretty tricky, and one of them I'm going to leave until I get the LX worked on by someone with more tools and skill than I have. Otherwise, a pretty straightforward job given this is my first-ever radiator swap.

That's yet another radiator (pretty much every single one that I've ever seen pics of) that has substantially clogged cooling fins on the front side. I think you were smart to swap it! Had the vehicle been maintained with a reasonably frequent coolant drain/fill interval?

Yeah, I was surprised by the amount of junk. I try to spray the fins every time I wash the car but clearly I wasn't able to clean the radiator effectively with just a hose. It still ran quite cool - the highest temps I ever saw on my ScanGuage over the past 6 months or so was high 180s or low 190s if I recall correctly.

Good question re: interval. Prior to my ownership I am not sure of the interval but the records indicate very routine Lexus dealer maintenance so I am guessing that it was changed at 100k or whenever Lexus recommends. I also had it done at ~140k.

Driver side header was finally replaced and holy crap, I should have done this years ago.

Finally feels nice to not be driving around with a clapped exhaust tick and the only sound coming from the rubber on concrete.

Did you go oem or aftermarket

Fluid filmed our 99 and 04. The 99:

Realized the pink in our 99s coolant reservoir was not in fact the coolant level, but a stain😂 . So replaced that.
Swapped the downstream O2 sensors on the 04 to see if my P0420 turns into a P0430. And ended up with a P0037 after forgetting to plug one of the sensors back in😂.

I attempted to unclog my sunroof drain. So I pulled the sunvisor, trim, and headliner off only to discover the drain tube wasn’t even connected. After confirming that the water would flow freely with no leaks, I hooked everything back up! 30 minutes start to finish.

Harbor freight interior trim remover was worth it’s weight in gold. No broken trim pieces!

We don’t get much rain here in the desert, and when we do especially if it’s a torrential type I make sure to enjoy the AWD system. Quick road trip to California state line and placed a megabucks bet. Sub 20 year vehicle and thing still rides like it was 2006.

Installed new turn signals on the front to match the new headlights. With the new headlamp reflectors & bulbs everything is much brighter. Next on the list will be to get the Baja Designs Squadron Pros in @BenCC's fog light housings.

I have an old Front Runner rack and since removing the wind fairing and installing a Stedi light bar a couple years ago, the wind noise has been problematic. I did some research and finally decided to try attaching the light bar on a Yakima JetStream cross bar. Although I purchased the wind fairing too, the wind noise has been greatly reduced with this set up and I don't know if I'll keep it or sale it. If I keep it I'll need to put the light on top of the crossbar to allow room for the wind fairing.

I will have a discount for returning customers. Will post in a few days.

New PCV valve + associated hoses installed, a couple vac lines replaced while I had the intake off, torqued valve covers to spec, new air filter installed, and cleaned the MAF sensor.

Edit - the vehicle unexpectedly drives a bit smoother, I’m guessing cleaning off the pretty dirty MAF sensor helped!

It's been speculated that the Toyota coolant contains plasticizers/conditioners to assist with the longevity of cooling system components, which is why I was asking. You got a lot of mileage/time out of yours!

And yeah there's absolutely no way to get to to the radiator fins for cleaning, unless you remove the shroud and carefully backflush it in-place with a 90° coil gun attachment and foaming coil cleaner. Ideally it's best to simply pull it every five-ish years as part of a comprehensive cooling system maintenance schedule as a way of maximizing cooling capacity -- and keeping plastic radiator tanks cool also helps them to last longer.
