View attachment 4018227I used those dental pick to unlock the pins and also depress the locking plastic piece. Sometimes it depresses the piece, other times the pieces just broke apart. I think if you plan on doing this a ton and the specialty tool is under $20 then do it. Haha. I’m all about making life easier. Which is why I got the top side creeper for this whole job:

Seriously thinking about investing in one of those top side creepers.

Replaced my LX470s spark plugs. 120k miles maintenance (second set on mine at 240k miles now I think, idk I’m the second owner).

I have a personal vendetta with the driver side, rear plug/coil. It took me damn near 45 minutes to get that bad boy out LOL.
Bro, that one plug is so annoying to get out. I did the valve cover gaskets the same day, and I just saved that one plug for the following day. I was so tired of coming up with systems of u-joints and extensions to get in there

Same man, I started to feel like a mad scientist or something with all the extensions and u-joint contraptions lol. The whole time, I was like “this can’t be how a real mechanic does this” 😂

Put a new booster/master on our 1999 JDM 100–hopefully good for another 25 years.
After 9 years of owning and maintaining 100s, finally got off my butt and figured how to get techstream working—bleeding with that is amazing.

I've had stuttering, loss of power intermittently for the past two weeks and also had P0170 code on and off. I cleaned the MAF sensor and the code went away but the stuttering didn't until it actually just died as I was pulling into work. I had it towed home (the shame!!) and threw some money at it by way of new Denso ignition coils and NGK spark plugs. That didn't fix anything but I don't feel bad as I don't know that they have ever been changed and I have put over 100K miles on it during my ownership.
A good (and much smarter) friend helped me troubleshoot and we landed on a bad fuel pump. Don't be too mad at me but because of time I replaced with Delphi unit from Autozone. Viola!!! It runs perfect. I attached a picture for fun.

My delphi fuel pump has been hiccup free for over a year now.
Edit: I just checked...1 year and 7 months.

And my previous OEM unit lasted only 2 years and 20k miles. I have been telling myself it was a bad batch built during pandemic but I have no evidence to prove that.

Fuel pump is not an expensive part, better order one during a parts sale and keep.

You're back on the road, that's all that matters.

Funny (actually, interesting). Talked to a guy who works on some of my vehicles the other day.

Told him I'd like him to take a look at my '99 LC b/c it's exhibited similar symptoms and it's probably a fuel pump going out.

He replied that they typically either work or don't. He then asked, "What gas do you use?" Costco, and change the fuel filter about once a year or so.

I then wondered if it could be a relay, etc. He didn't think so. Now I'm just planning on buying a new pump and be done with it.

That was not my experience at ALL. My intermittent fuel pump failure started with the previous owner, gave him a crank-no-start then didn't do it again for almost a year. Then it accelerated to once a month or so, then after a couple months of that it went to a couple times in one week (with me replacing the engine room block assembly (main fuse and relay box) to try and solve it) then finally crapped the bed for good.

Ya, I'm with you @Trapper50cal! I've read too many threads on this topic here on Mud that suggest otherwise. Thanks for another confirmation. I've got a few off road trips coming up and I don't want to be stranded.

Super productive week on the cruiser.

After several years of a parasitic draw, I finally found the culprit on accident while prepping to install the Teyes system. Factory nav cd changer had gotten water damage at some point in the last few years, this led to it never properly shutting down.

Used to be at 280 mA now we are sitting right at 50mA so should be able to sit for a few weeks without needing a jump.

The final win of the week was ditching the factory nav unit, and installing the teyes unit. Even the wife was really impressed and she is not a fan of the cruiser haha.

What brand/model is that top side creeper?

So, while not technically my vehicle or a Landcruiser, a friend asked me if I could do his timing belt on his GX470.

I will have to do mine in a year or so and thought I’d be able to get a “practice” run by doing his.

Took a little longer than I anticipated. His rad was leaking so had to wait for that to come in. He also had a coolant leaking from the inlet that had calcified coolant, needing cleaning on the intake and down into the timing cover.

Plus, I was double and triple checking everything I did. Pretty much followed Timmy the Toolman’s videos and it worked out. Feeling so much more confidence when I have to do mine.

His belt had a number of cracks and the belt had 130000km so he was likely on borrowed time.

Can’t tell you how elated I was when I first turned the engine over and it started with no issues. Whew
