Used JB weld and duct tape to fix a puncture in the upper oil pan (aluminum) of Kelli Nicole's 100 Series LX "Greta." We ran Holy Cross two weekends ago and had some trail side repair work to do after returning to camp.

@BurnsCrew spotting @FortKnox98 up a climb on HC

Holy Cross is a crazy 6-mile trail with lots of fun obstacles. Knox Barber's 1998 Land Cruiser (stock except 315/75/16 and rear locked- factory bumpers with sliders) easily made it through the trail besides one hiccup on this near vertical hill climb.

After finishing out Cruisers on the Rockies in the San Juans, we've all head back our own ways to regroup before Cruisers on the Rocks IV kicks off in October! Registration just opened so be sure to grab a spot! Stock trucks all the way to 2nd gen tundra swapped 100s will be present with tons of great food, fellowship, and raffle prizes to boot!

See y'all in October!

Nothing in comparison to the above… but, I got a garage! First time in my life I will have space to do repairs inside and clean! Somewhere I can leave it disassembled and order parts!

Starting 10/1… so still a ways to wait, but so looking forward to it!

New Toyota steering rack, new upper and lower oil pan gaskets, new oil pan, 90k mile service (TB, Water Pump, etc).

Just rolled 435k miles too.

@TNLX470 - Did you do the oil pan gaskets? If not, what did they set you back?

Parts and labor ran about $1300 for that portion of it. The shop said book hours on that was 13 hours, but only charged 10 hours. I had a new steering rack (warranty replacement) installed and the shop ate 3 hours as the warranty portion of it.

Ya, that's a steal at that price!

Truck went in for a serivce and a once-over.
Rear R CV boot split
Steering rack worn needs replacing.

Asked the guy to do me a ball park quote. He said it would be expensive and told me about a job he'd just done where the owner wanted only Toyota parts. His quote for the steering rack was $1650 plus another $400 +/- to fit it. That seemed expensive to me so I did some price checking. I can see 100 series racks on ebay from $300. I found a place called the Cruiser Store selling them for $700. I asked the guy to check his supplier but he told me $700 was a great price. I asked if he had any objections to me ordering the part, if his supplier couldn't do a better price.

So the $700 rack doesn't come with track rod ends, but seems like these are around $50 each, so still vastly cheaper than his quote. Prices are in Aus $ btw.

I'll wait until after the weekend for him to get back to me and confirm suppliers price. But not all bad for a 20 year old car if that's all the issues he can see!

What symptoms are you experiencing that they diagnosed a worn rack?

Spare tire swing out came back from powder coat, got it all mounted back up, and license plate relocation bracket installed. I’ve got about $104 in this, between the hinge setup and a latch. View attachment 3314195View attachment 3314202View attachment 3314203
A little over a year, 12k driven, 200-300 of those off-road, and the spare tire swing out is holding up great! Only problem outside of a bit of s*** welds and powder coat damage that allowed some surface rust, is the latch not keeping tight after a few heavy bumps. Swinging open unexpectedly. Stupidly, I didn’t put a pull pin on when I originally made it. So that happened today. The bearings still had plenty of grease and no rust in or on them. Dismounted from the spindle easily too. The lower mount is super solid and all bolts still holding very tightly.

Coming back from Rangers game yesterday, I got the dreaded CEL and the LX started driving very poorly. There was definitely a miss on one of the cylinders. Limp it home and hook up techstream and get P0300 and P0306 (#6 misfire). I figured it was the ignition coil. So ordered 8 new coils and 8 new spark plus from rockauto (Denso). In the meantime, today I ran up to Autozone and bought one Duralast ignition coil and some carb cleaner. Changed out the coil and that fixed it up. I also cleaned up the throttle body that was looking in poor shape. Thursday I'll be replacing all coils and plugs with Denso but it appears I'll have a few spares to keep in the car.

Which Denso Plugs did you choose? I picked up 8X Denso Iridium TT's

Only a Land Cruiser owner would understand using a cheap part only to replace it along with all the other bad actors once the denso or OEM level parts came in.

😂

I know it’s double the work but I wanted to make sure it was the actual coil causing the issues. I kind of knew it was time to do the coils and plugs but was dragging my feet. The car had other plans!

Stitched on new leather steering wheel (Alan Gun Leather, via eBay) last night. My fingers will be hurting for the next week.

Good job man! I love that it's similar size to the OEM wheel leather.

The LC shop I work for uses a guy to wrap steering wheels, but the overall size of the wheel becomes larger due to whatever method he re-wraps the wheel.
